Gold Coast hooker Nathan Peats played alongside Hayne on the glitter strip and previously with Parramatta and gave an insight into his relationship with the two-time Dally M medal winner.
“We used to clash all the time because I got to Parra and he was the king there and I had the attitude, ‘I don’t really care who you are’ and we used to clash at times a fair bit,” Peats said in an episode of
In My Own Words for sports social platform
20FOUR.
“When he came up here (to the Gold Coast) he had his little daughter and we got along really well. He was a good fella and I enjoyed his company.”
Hayne took a pay cut to leave the Gold Coast and return to Sydney because he wanted to be closer to his daughter and her mother. Peats can’t fault him for taking that route but admits he wished he’d played better in his stint in Queensland.
“He’s sacrificing over half a million dollars to go back to where he wants to be (with his daughter),” Peats said.
“I just wish he’d played a little bit better footy up here and enjoyed it a bit more because it didn’t look like he was too happy.
“I wish he enjoyed it a bit more so he could have left on a better note with the club and Titans fans and himself as well.”
