I've got to admit, as the NRL world was excited by the return of The Plane in todays match, I found the entire experience just a hollow feeling.

I've never had a less empty feeling in my rugby league life, whether it was when I was playing, coaching or just supporting Parra, than I did today seeing The Plane play for another team today.

Even though I'm not overly fussed that he signed somewhere else, I'm devastated that he won't be playing for Parra.

The entire situation, from both sides and in all respects is just totally disappointing.

I can completely understand how you feel.
As excited as I was to see him back in the NRL, I too was devastated that he wasn't showing his sublime skills for us Eels.
It is what it is though. He has made his decision. The club made theirs.
I'm getting on with it and will cheer us on for the rest of the season all the while watching Hayne's resurrected career with very much interest. I'll never forget what he did for us as a player.
Gronk ignored my point earlier. Hayne had a career decision to make and he made it for himself. He only has a short time left in the game so why wouldn't he do what is best for him? I applaud him for his courage actually because he seemed genuinely torn not to have been at the Eels. He could have however, chosen his words better, but that just comes from pressure and inexperience. I've learnt that myself as I've got older as I've made plenty of mistakes before as well.

I don't think I've seen it very often in Rugby League, but I can site two examples of where fans have welcomed home a former hero of their own club.

In 1998, I went to St James' Park in Newcastle and watched Newcastle play West Ham. West Ham's keeper that day was Shaka Hislop, a Newcastle favourite and cult hero. When he walked onto the pitch walked towards the Newcastle active end, despite the fact he was playing for the opposition, he was given a standing ovation, the likes of which I'd never experienced before in any sport ever.
The same happened with Ante Covic when he was playing for Perth Glory vs the Wanderers at Pirtek. His first game back he was given a standing ovation when he walked towards the RBB end but by all sides of the ground.
Hayne's been an Eel hero for over a decade. He has earnt our respect. He certainly has mine, despite some shortcomings that he might have.

Lebron James was welcomed back to Miami with applause and highlights when he first played there after returning to the cavs too.

Maybe its just an Aussie thing to boo everybody.
Eels fans forget they've even booed their own team before, on many occasions. I shouldn't be surprised that they will now boo one of their all time greats.

To be fair, When Lebron first went to Miami and played in Cleveland he absolutely copped it! Probably worse than Hayne is

No problems with that. I'd expect us to do the same to Hayne, but at least show him some respect.
ie. Runs on the field - not booed.
Drops ball - cheered loudly.
Kicks out on the full - lot's of cheering.
Throws bad pass over the sideline - extra loud cheering.
etc...

I have no problem with that either. I have no problem with him being booed either. That's sport.
Lebron got booed when he ran onto the court, his name was announced and every time he touched the ball. And in a team of 5 when your the main man that is a hell of a lot of touches...and boos haha

Looks like some people have trouble coping with International Celebrate Hayne Day not being a universal wall to wall wank fest...

Heaven forbid that others have differing opinions!

No problems with differing opinions. Read above.
It's the juvenile opinions from the school kids I have a problem with.

When Hayne scores his first try for the Titans I wonder if he will do the Hayne Plane or retire it completely?

On a side note when Ronaldo played his first game for Real Madrid against his former club, Manchester United he scored and refused to celebrate. Didn't carry on after the game either. And nobody has a bigger ego than he has. I wonder if Hayne will be the same when he plays against us?

"Doing the plane" is probably part of his contract, vital to his ongoing "brand" and value of his TPAs.

Though maybe he should take the opportunity to change his signature move, and adopt the sprinkler?

Didn't you several months ago, sell out on our club and team, for an inferior club, the wombats? That's what I consider childish, but hey, that was your opinion. ;)

Ronaldo has a massive ego. Look at his reaction. He thought he was going to die when he scored that!!! lol. Only joking but wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. He ends up behind the goals. Not a place to be celebrating imo.
I reckon Haynes reaction will depend on the fans at the game.
If he's copping shit from douche bags like Gronk and Bart and you and 10 000 others, why wouldn't he give it back?
The good thing about RL is that I hope it will all be in good humour.
