Hayne signs with Gold Coast

Bullshit. He is going from one rugby league club to another.

It is irrelevant that he played other sports in between.

He needs a clearance from Parramatta to play for the Gold Coast. And clearances cannot be given after June 30.

I would have to disagree him that him playing other sports in-between is irrelevant. Hayne has no contract with the Eels so I'm not sure why he would need a clearance. Either way its all done now

Good point mate. This used to be the case once upon a time.

Because all players need a clearance when changing clubs. It makes no difference whether he played with the old club last week or three years ago. And it doesn't matter if he has a contract or not. These are national rules. The NRL seem to be ignoring their own rules to help out their club.

So did Hayne actively discuss with the Eels, or did he just sit back and accept the Titans offer?

Doesn't sound like their was any active communication between the Eels and Hayne.

On Wave FM in Wollongong, the news report stated Hayne was not interested in the Eels given their current situation(s) that have unfolded during this season.

To me,Hayne is joining a club that:

A/ Can afford him.

B/ A stable club away from the hustle bustle of Sydney.

C/ A club that will be competing in this years finals, therefore creating more exposure in the media.

If the Titans play this right, they should have Hayne playing next week in reserves, and the next week in 1st grade from the bench.

He hasn't played for two years in rugby league. He might be fit in his head and body...but that does not make up for the match fitness he really lacks.

They throw him back in the deep end against the Warriors in the Tit's starting side,he will get shown up by Johnson & Co.

Yes he is. Parramatta to Gold Coast.

Under the rules it is irrelevant that he played other sports in between.

He played for Parra previously and now he is playing with another club. He needs a clearance.

Read only a few pages back. To be fair the thread was moving quickly to begin with but it has slowed now and your question has been answered about 50 times already.

The question has been answered only by those following the rules the NRL has made up for this.

Please give me 1 example of a player (of any background) signing at a club after June 30.

Lol this guy.

You need clearance from the NRL - not the former club when your contract ends.

Otherwise every club who loses players to other teams they want would be blocking left right and centre. Hell, the raiders will need to appoint a defensive lineman there Would be so much blocking going on!

I don't agree that he should be allowed to play for another club this late in the season, but I don't see why he would need approval from his previous club to do so when there's no contract in play.

You can't block clearances for no reason dickhead.

And the clearance period ends June 30 regardless of who gives it.

Lol this tard.

Because the national rules say so. Contracts are irrelevant. How many rugby league players even have contracts to play the game? I'll give you the tip, probably well under half of all players in the country.

Move is a bit perplexing really.

From Hayne's perspective I guess he's got another three years, tops, left in him and wants a good deal. He also wants to be as far away from the Eels as possible given their well-documented woes this season. The place is going to be a shambles for a while as they recover and he wants success rather than failure.

But the Titans? They're starting to get somewhere after cleaning out the playing list. Bringing Hayne in necessarily means giving up on other options and tightening their belt on the emerging players who've stepped up this season when their contracts come up for renewal. How many of them are they going to be risking losing? Then there's the way Hayne has carried on in the media; I've never had much time for him but I think it's been clear for a while that what he desires is media exposure and money, not necessarily in that order. Bringing that kind of attitude into a club that's just starting to turn a corner could prove unwise.

Obviously Henry and the Titans are gambling that he'll bring results and a positive attitude even though he's been away from the game for so long. I'm just not sure signing him is any wiser than signing Robbie Farrah. Frankly I would have gone after Benji Marshall ahead of either.
