Hayne signs with Gold Coast

pre game 1 hour suck fest bout Hayne will be on the cards.

Fap fap fap. Ad. Yvonne wonders aloud, Wally and Joey wander aloud, and dribble, Lockyer says something in that gruff voice of his and...fap fap fap.

Good thing is, it's taken the spotlight off Robbie for a few minutes and given the Sharks the perfect week - they got the loss (ahem, not win) they 'had to have', without any hand wringing and sudden 'oh...will they make it or do they have hiccups' woogedy boogedy bored RL journos like to go on with.

Pity it killed off that NRL Rookie's nascent NRL career though. Oh well.

Why would he need a clearance, when he is not a registered NRL player?

He was released by his former club, therefore ending all contractual obligations he had previously agreed to.

The NRL has to ratify & register his "new" contract.

TBH I think you're reading to much into this "contractual" situation.
Because all players need a clearance when they change clubs. It has nothing to do with being registered or contracted. I have explained this many times and posted the national policy that sets it out.

A camera slowly panning around Gus while he explains how great Hayne is for the game will happen for sure.

I look forward to the segment on the footy show with some nice footage of him going back to the old housing commission and telling the story of his hardships to the sounds of "The Scientist" by Coldplay

The inner monologue:
My name is Jarryd Hayne. I'm 28 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Jarryd Hayne. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me. Only an entity. Something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

He was down the local footy field in Minto last Thursday and they were supposedly filming something.

It depends on a lot of things. But hayne has proven he can be a very good right centre option.

Normally I hate the way that NSW tries to squeeze players in their wrong positions, but hayne was a better right centre than any option we currently have.

Lot of water to go under the bridge between now and then though.

Yeah good point. I suppose he would be better for the blues at centre then Dugan or better winger then Ferguson

That's a f**king awful comparison to make. But it still made me giggle. Have a like.

are Parra fans really going to boo Hayne when he nexts plays against Parra? what a bunch of flogs if they do.

if Parra had their shit together, he'd be back there. don't blame a bloke who has to also think about his own future. i'm sure parra flogs would go to another workplace too if they were being offered 50% more to do the same job, without all the bullshit which has been going on at Parra.

the player is the easy scapegoat. you lot should be outside the houses of the directors who've brought the club to it's knees.

Thing is,Parra are not finals bound...and because of this one point,he would have not signed with the GC.My tip is that he will be back with the Eels after his current contract expires.

The new club seeks the clearance. The signing of a contract could theoretically occur at any time. Parramatta can't have cleared him previously. He didn't have a club to go to previously. Clearances can't be refused without good cause. It's a formality in 95% of cases. It's not as if Hayne's clearance would or even could be denied. It's simply about the consistent application of the rules.
If that's the way it works it's an utterly absurd rule.

I can see why you would be crying out for consistency but maybe this could be the catalyst to remove a useless piece of red tape.

Do you see any benefit in this rule?

My understanding is that it is there at a local level to stop players from getting bonuses, advance payments, loans etc from clubs and then just simply moving to another club, leaving the original club down cash and a player.
For that instant, I can definitely see benefits.
Not 100% sure on the application at a higher level (ie NRL), if it is in place there it would be for different reasons.
I also don't know the full details of Hayne's contract, negotiations and whether he had prior clearance from Parra etc so don't know whether this 'rule' has been broken.

There is a purpose to it as has been said. If the alternative is individual players somehow gaining clearances directly from clubs, I'd suggest that would be much more troublesome.

I can see the purpose for amateur clubs. But what purpose does it serve in the NRL?
