Hayne the lair

I'm a hayne fan - I reckon he cops more than he deserves, and overall he's good for the game. I didnt' really see that muffed put-down as lairising, either.

However...later in the match when O'Neill scooted down the sideline for a try, Hayne chased him about halfway - then gave up. Chances are he may not have caught him, but he is a great athlete and might indeed have got there. I reckon that was a lot more culpable than the butchered put-down.

Hayne gets attacked by the media, oh grab the violin please. Hayne is put on a pedestal by the media as far as I can tell.

The fact that it was a right or wrong decision by the ref doesn't change the fact he bombed a certain try, keep on his line and he scores easily.

Hayne has all the skills in the world the only thing that holds Jarryd back is the thing between his ears. No look cut out passes when the short ball is on or in conditions that don't suit show he has miles of improvement in him and he still doesn't run the ball enough.

This criticism of Hayne started for me in the 2009 Grand Final, that day he was controlling the playmaking when he should have been on the fringes causing trouble. And he has made that mistake ever since.

Everyone is allowed to make mistakes, Benji makes mistakes all the time you take the good with the bad but a lot that Jarryd makes are due to a dumb idea or trying to be too fancy like with no look passes etc.

None of this makes any sense.... Especially the last paragraph...Benji makes the same mistakes as Hayne but?

A lot of Benji's trick plays like the ball he put on the chest of Lawrence are well set up and very much planned, if not by the team or the coach but by Benji, he knows where his support is sometimes it is merely his execution that lets him down. A lot of the trick shots Hayne puts on like his no look passes are born out of frustration, hope and wonder. Hayne is at his best testing the line himself he doesn't need to be all that creative, once he has beaten the first man all he has to do is look for support, his raw size and speed allow for that.

Benjis no look passes are all planned by Jarryds no look passes are all frustration.

So how do you know all this oh wise one? So your saying that Hayne doesn't practice it but it comes of more then it doesn't while Benji does practice it and he has the same success as Hayne..

Once again No sense...

Hayne knew he took the hard option when he stuffed up that try, you could see it on his face after. He easily could have scored normally.

He does have a bit of an image problem, I think he is a very good player but you can see how people say he's not a 'team' player.

Example - his play the balls are SO slow. It's almost as if he thinks when he gets tackled he doesn't have to play it fast cause no one in his team will be able to score anyway (probably true with Parra...)

You put Hayne at fullback in a team with a decent half pairing and he will explode.

He is carrying the whole team - think about it, he has the best kicking game in the club - what does that say about the shitty halves? He has the best passing game in the club - what does that say about the shitty halves? Get the drifit?

He has one of the best kicking games in the comp when its on target. He does occasionally have the radar go missing but he gets a hold of them.

This thread is good because I have never heard the term lair used in common parlance. It is good to learn.

I didn't say they aren't practiced. When Benji made his break he sized up Brett Stewart and Chris Lawrence immediately and popped the perfect ball. That is him planning in an instant what he is doing, you don't need to be a shrink to pick those things up all you need to do is watch. I see Hayne on a 4th tackle play face the goalposts and throw a cut out ball that doesn't create any sort of advantage for the receiver of the pass such as an overlap or extra space, all he is really doing is lowering the success of the play by getting too fancy, if that is planned then its a bone headed plan, but I take the benefit of the doubt that he is either frustrated by the lack of talent around him or trying to over compensate for it but by doing that he takes away from his own game.

Benji throws wayward balls as well, but the amount of times he has popped the right ball with a mind boggling pass in a crucial stage of a game at any level far outweighs Hayne. Benji cops his own criticism as well, his style of play can have consequences.

If Hayne can get lauded when he breaks through 3 forwards to score or set up a blazing try, then he is fair game when he makes a dud play that can cost his team in the long run such as the unnecessary dive last night. You can't have it both ways.

I had my first chance to have a look at what this thread is based on. Wow, wtf was the young man thinking? Didn't stop me from laughing though, that was special.

At least Hayne came out afterwards and said he regretted it.

Meanwhile the game's biggest show pony Marshall flat out refuses to change his game, even defending his dumb plays when they almost cost his team wins (ridiculous speculator pass on his own line against penrith)

LOL@ Hayne is carrying his team...

Pretty sure Parra have a better record this year without Hayne.

Hayne is a good player, I don't think anyone has doubted this at all - but it is a sad state of affairs when people object to any criticism thrown his way... Especially warranted criticisms.

So you are pretty sure how sure are you?

Its a sad state of affair on a forum for people to have a differing view? And Warranted criticism? So you know he was trying to be a show pony? ( i get it, he saw Dugan do it in his debut season and thought he needed to get one up so El Diablo could use it on these forums to bag out Bogan some more...)

I was about to bring this up i doubt Benji would have had a ten page thread if that pass was taken by panthers and they scored...
