Hayne to 6...

people in the crowd were absolutely giving it to hayne last night .... which i think is massively unfair, do they expect him to score every touch and stop every try? fmd

BUT I will also say there are times when he seems to loaf around the back

I don't blame him for any tries the roosters scored last night - I blame the 3 or 4 guys who missed tackles they should have made up in the line

examples

1) the try where we put up a bomb, it bounced, they fielded it, linnett ran around 4 guys and then went most the field before passing to a support to score ..... ppl were giving it to jarryd for not stopping it ... WTF?!?!?! .... jarryd ran linnett down and stopped him! ... give it to the 4 guys who did arm grabs on linnett or others for not chasing like hayne did ... FMD!

2) but now one that pissed me off re: hayne ..... when the roosters almost scored from a kick (inu got there as they were about to score and made them knock on) .... as sure as hell jarryd should have got to the down field kick before the roosters and he should have f'n dived on the ball when he got there at the same time instead of doing something fancy .... he just does these lazy things once in a while which can be costly ..... i would guarantee reverse teh situation - minicello, perett or some otehr roosters back would gone hard at the kick and been all over that ball to wrap it up

but ... hayne is a class player .... ppl expect too much of him - he will produce a great game every so often, but its impossible for anyone to do that EVERY game

Hayne is woeful with positioning and always has been, it was just highlighted tonight by Smith and some decent halves.

When he was 1st put there a lot of fans agreed that he wasn't very good at playing fullback. He was lazy and gathered kicks far to slowly, he was bad positionally and never took charge when a bomb was put up. He'd often sit back and let other players catch a bomb when a normal fullback would get in there and claim it.

Then he started to score some tries and set some up, he was brilliant in attack, so all of a sudden he was not only the best fullback but best player in the game. It didn't matter that he still was crap when we were defending because he'd make up for most of those mistakes by scoring and setting up more tries.

I love Hayne and his attacking ability, especially when he is on fire, but he is not good for us defensively.

The 1st try he wasn't following the ball, he was staying too far infield, most fullbacks would've had that covered.

The next try he did the same thing, he tracks across the field too slowly when the opposition spreads the ball. Most fullbacks would've got to the ball.

There was that other one in the 2nd half when they did a nothing kick and Hayne jogged over to the ball and had it kicked away from him as he went to pick it up. Every fullback in the comp would've gotten to that, Hayne looked as though he cbfb.

There were plenty of others, but it's all the same, he is either not tracking across the park following the ball closely enough or he is just moving to slow and showing no urgency.

I don't think he was the only reason for the loss though.
- Hayne obviously, poor position throughout the game.
- Roosters played great.
- They put lots of pressure on Parra when we tried to spread the ball. Parra always crumble when the defense puts pressure on, it's been like that for years.
- They won the ruck, slowed us down all night, hence they got penalised a lot, the job was done though. They conceded a few more penalties than usual but they never allowed us to get on a roll.
- Morts and Robson are the least creative and worst organising halves pairing in the competition.
- Smithy, he coached a great game, I was worried about this in the leadup.

So Hayne wasn't the only reason, but he helped them get out to a nice early lead. They got a lot of confidence from that and never looked back.

It's not the end of the world though, we bumped into a team on a roll with a former coach that was always going to try his best to beat his old team.

Disagree with this comment. I think Robson`s game has improved out of sight in the last few weeks in particular. His kicking game is good now. He`s playing a good five-eight`s game at the moment. (Actually, he`s playing half AND five-eight, because the other bloke can`t hack first grade.) So when you talk about our halves pairing, you`re really only talking about Jeff Robson. He should get paid double the salary he`s on. The reason Hayne is having to chime into five-eight so often is that Mortimer isn`t doing his job. Hayne`s basically playing two positions as well. We might as well pay Robson and Hayne a bit more and only field twelve players each week.

You are right about Mortimer not doing his job as a half, hence hayne having to come in and play an organising role.
Imagine someone like a Cronk or Kimmorley here doing that, and Hayne hanging out wide or running into gaps as he should be doing as a fullback.
Our team would be complete.
I'm all for the club spending whatever it takes to bring a specialised half back to the club. It is indeed, our missing link.

the roosters were carving us up in the ruck all night making easy metres if you are looking for your fullback to shut down the opposition after they ran straight through your line like a hot knife through butter you are in deep trouble even superman would struggle

Well, the first 2 matches on our 3 win streak, Mortz was not that involved in attack and mainly played support and backup.

In the first half against the dogs, it was the same.

In the 2nd half, Hayne went quiet and Robbo and Mortz took over, we score 2 penalty goals I think.

This game, Mortz probably thought, hey we went so well in 3 games with me at 7, I might as well ball play more.

He did.

It could've been DA's game plan for Mortz to take over so that the Chooks would focus on stopping Hayne and let Mortz do the playing. But unfortunately, Mortz could not.

I agree that the pack was outplayed except probably Poore.

But they weren't that bad.

However, Mortz' errors just didn't allow us to build momentum. Especially after his miskick for touch.

Back to Hayne.

I agree with Schlitz.... Hayne attacks brilliantly from 1 but the other parts of his fullback game is so so.

He can also stop tries well but sometimes he just gets there too late.

Lastly, Burt used to pass to Hayne. Rarely see it now even though I see opportunities for him to pass to him. Burt then gets hammered and dragged around.
