:xFinally got through to Sky yesterday re the new High Definition service.
Bought the flash HD ready tele 3 years ago and was lookjing at an interesting site http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=34&TopicId=20830&page_no=10 and apparently you cant connect these "older" HD ready tv's to the Mysky set top box.

The connections on the back of our tv is for component vid/av type cables, the plugs on the back of the set top are like a wide usb/scart type fitting !

I am disgusted, i feel ripped off.

Rang Sony (made the tv) and asked if there was an adaptor cable and the reply was an emphatic "no".

so, if you bought a tele with HD in mind, have a squiz at the back...

Pretty sure you can get a scart/AV adaptor cable. If not you can probably
get one made up......a lot cheaper than a new tele!!!

That's a real sh*tter, Ozbash. Maybe you could enquire how your TV actually is HD ready, since it states that it is. You should be able to get adaptors, if it is a SCART connection on the sky box. I think HDMI adaptors are in development.

All HD ready TV's these days should have HDMI cable ports at the back of them. The more of them you have, the better.

Is your HD system working? Is the picture noticibly better? Do you think it will improve the Bunnies chances?

Tbh, I haven't bothered with MySky and I don't think I'll bother with SkyHD either. I only really watch Sky for the League. The Music channels are alright, but that's about it.

Something that does improve picture quality is forking out decent money on cables, it actually does make a difference.

Try the HDMI/DVI to RGBHV converters found here:

www.curtpalme.com

The HDFury is particularly well regarded

You can also get an RGBHV to component converters if your TV needs component.

Check the back of your TV. Most of the Sony HD sets can accept RGBHV.

Hope this helps

To the people suggesting adapters: it's not going to make a difference, it'll downgrade the signal to the lowest standard (the one on the TV) so it wont be in HD.

Unfortunately Oz, you purchased your TV at a bad time. 3 years ago there was no HD in New Zealand, no one really knew what it was, hence you have idiots promoting their TVs has "HD ready" when they were blatantly not because for most people it wasn't going to make a difference until we actually got HD capable equipment--bad call on their behalf. To be HD read you need HDMI inputs, that's the only way you're going to get an HD signal and an HD picture from your computer/PS3/Sky Decoder. Adapters will still produce a picture, but it wont be HD.

Not entirely true, I'm not sure about adaptors downconverting the Sky set-top box that may be different, but in normal circumstances you can get up to a 1080i signal through a component connection. HDMI is only required for 1080P.
