On Friday for a week of skiing and a week of travelling. Was just wondering what channels will be showing the League finals and the rugby, plus any league shows etc I should look out for, and should hotels generally have these channels?

Sky tv will have the league, finding a pub/bar to see it could be a problem with the RWC on at the moment.

Usually on SKY Sport 2. I think most hotels have it on-tap. If not a local bar will.

BTW you better watch some rugby. I believe immigration ask questions on the way out.

Have a good trip.

Because you're a visitor and guest, the locals are normally obliging, so just change the channel on the tv..... and tell them that you're manuhiri....

I'm hoping to return alive, so standing between NZers and their rugby is not high on the itinerary.

Well let me put it this way. "Are you here for the Rugby World Cup?" is one of the questions on the Incoming Passanger Card

What about incoming Passengers Ian? Are they also asked?

Also, what do you suggest should I encounter an end-of-the-world scenario? Is it all horseshit? As a traveller I need to know these sorts of things.

I wasn't asked verbally when I went through immigration but it was on the card that you're given on the plane that you have to fill out.

Also ALL end of the world things are crap.

A Warriors T-shirt under an All Blacks hoodie isn't bad insurance.

Be aware that because of the union world cup, motel prices are horrendous, especially on weekends in the bigger centers. For example, one of our managing directors is visiting from Aus. Tonight (Thursday) his motel is $140. He wanted to stay Friday night too, but decided against it when he was quoted $500 for the night.

What you need to ask your hotel is:

Do you have all Sky Sports channels?

A decent one should have at least one of them.

You can go here to check what's on:
http://www.skytv.co.nz/tv-guide.aspx

This.

Many hotels and motels only have 1, and that 1 will be showing the RWC. And there's very little to no chance of you finding a pub that is showing the League live if it clashes with the RWC

Exactly. And in most parts of NZ there's nooooo f*n way the pub will change the channel from Bore Blacks to league...

Yeah it's been there for quite a while.

And if you're didgi's age there's very little to no chance of getting in to a pub in the first place ;-)

Cheers guys, fortunately last weekend I was staying in Christchurch at a place that had both channels, got all the games I wanted to and more. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and was great flying out of Auckland this afternoon seeing the airport packed with Warriors jerseys.

Definitely behind you tomorrow, except for Toyota Cup of course.
