They are all older than 03 though. You don't turn your back, you just get out the old albums (ok not limp), a bit of early Korn or anything before Load of Metallica. Then you just shake your head at kids who tell you they are just into Korn after hearing word up or some garbage like that. All good fun.

Never been into Godsmack myself, more into the British rock scene of yesteryear, (with me being an old british rocker i guess! ;-)) but Trivium and Lamb of god seem alright.

Not a patch on Fear factory, Venom, Nevermore, Mayhem (well before Euro got killed), Pantera, Type o negative (for the gothic ladies dancing) etc. Sometimes its great being a bit older. :D

I know they are all older than 03 mate, but the years prior to that (98-2002), the nu-metal $hit was all the rage. I still listened to the old Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Pantera, but when there was no new bands that were that inspiring, it took a while get me back 'into' the metal scene........well listen and like new bands at least. I've always thought Korn was utter garbage, when life is peachy came out, they were being touted as the new Pantera. I went down to the local music shop, got them to throw that album on the listening station, I couldn't believe the utter $hite I was hearing that was supposed to be the 'new pantera'. Each to their own I guess.

I was into the Awake album, Godsmack's second, for a while when it came out but I don't really find the urge to listen to it any more. Their other albums were pretty sh*te. I remember buying some thing of theirs on DVD years ago, back when the technology of DTS was still kind of exciting, and thinking it was the worst sounding live thing I had ever experienced in my life. Not so much the music, but the recording/mixing/mastering was absolutely atrocious.

Was that dvd 'godsmack live" or "changes"?

live was utter rubbish, but changes is decent enough.

Immortal, Emperor and Darkthrone all put Mayhem to shame.

Just out of curiosity JW, what bands are you into???

Im more of an industrial metal fan so bands like Tool, NIN, White Zombie are more my scene.

Metallica, Breed 77, Fear Factory, Disturbed and Seven Dust also get some space on my iPod too

Alice in chains may just be one of the most boring bands ever IMO. I never understood how they were so popular. In an era where there were so many quality bands, I just can't see how they got such a strong following.

Never heard of them described as the new pantera, but i just got into bands on word of mouth (mainly a mate saying "listen to this its ace"). Was life is peachy the second album? That one was gash, the first and third is where its at!! :D

HevyDevy: I think the first Mayhem albums were heavier than the ones you mention. At its most extreme black metal has to many layers and its over produced. Give it to me Raw!! They are all good live though!!

Not saying what anyone says is wrong, its rock music, if we all liked the same it would be pop.

Listening to GnR (use your illusion) and Dio last night drinking Jack Daniels. Its a good life!! :D

Anyone into Immortal?
'Sons of northern darkness' is one of the best metal albums in the last 6 or 7 years
Incredible when they played live last year I think in NZ & AUS

At the Heart of Darkness is their opus.

Went backstage and had a couple of beers with Abbath after their show a few years back. What a legend!

My sister loves them and has all their albums, I am just grateful that she is into hiphop now and I don't have to listen to any of their crap anymore. I put them in the same category as Nine Inch Nails for mediocrity and I cannot stand either band, although I did not mind Alone with Pearl Jam, but apart from that I really hate them

And yet you don't mind Hip Hop, which has nothing whatsoever to offer.

Go figure.

Who ever said Korn was the new pantera needs to be shot.

I think it was in that old magazine 'Hot Metal' or the pommy one 'Metal Hammer' where I saw the quote, got excited, and then was bitterly disappointed.

You are right Carni, they need to be shot.......

she only listens to eastside hiphop which is not that bad, a lot of hiphop is absolutely terrible, but eastside is tolerable, Alice in Chains and Nine Inch Nails make me want to shoot myself
