50K is as good as the swans. That's without all the mass promotion and despite the fact that the storm haven't had regular coverage.

Get all the storm games on tv and give them some promotion and there is no question they will comfortably beat the swans. Would be interested to see what we could get against one of our big draws like the broncos or warriors.

'Small improvement' still was a 35% uplift on Panthers.

The Greggy factor would have been the main driver, but its still 50,000 more people than we would have got.

Plus it was 50,000 more people saw Storm win an entertaining match - which helps.

as mentioned, 50k is basically what the swans get despite being regularly shown on FTA

It's a good platform

Pretty decent rating effort, with limited promotion and no regular timeslot to get viewers into the habit of watching. A good platform to build on.

I live in Melbourne and had absolutely no idea it was on. A mate of mine who is a Storm fan and watches any games they put on FTA had no idea either. You can put the game on but if you don't tell anyone (except AFL fans =\) the ratings are never going to look good

which is what 9 want and why they didn't promote it

after they showed the first game and got 37k they used this figure to reply to people on facebook complaining about poor coverage

If it wasn't for this forum, Id have no idea it was on.

But that is one of the reasons I visit here, as you usually get the jump on most RL news and to have a good LOL@Souffs......

They promoted it on both versions of the AFL Footy Show.

You see this is our problem, we need to get people aware of whats happening when it comes to things like this. And getting regular FTA coverage of Rugby League into Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth will boost the numbers.

I would say that the Storm would get higher fta ratings in Melbourne then the swans do in Sydney if the games were shown regularly on fta in Melbourne.

Quite happy with those ratings, considering we were up against 3 melb. afl teams with nowhere the amount of coverage the Swans have had over the years, not prime time, etc. and yet we still got close to what the Swans rate.

We just need Ch.9 to show our games live on a regular basis and other rugby league games at a reasonable hour into Melbourne instead of the midnight shift each Friday and Sunday.

Getting a regular daytime timeslot is the key. People are creatures of habit and will tune in if they know it's on at the same time every week or 2.

Spot on. Get the game shown regularly in Melbourne and watch the ratings grow. We will never challenge AFL but im confident we can easily beat the swans.

and what is the point of that?

that's like asking The Pope to promote Islam

Melbourne is an AFL city. If you want to get more people to watch the NRL in Melbourne you're going to have to appeal to this crowd.

There is no better place to advertise the game then on the AFL footy show.

You can insult channel 9 for a lot of things (especially in regards to NRL in Melbourne) but this was a good move.

the best time to advertise would be doing a promo in the news and during a news ad break

using a f**king AFL show to promote NRL games is just stupid. the people watching the AFL Footy Show would be watching f**king AFL which was on at the same time

that would be like 9 using this ad for ACA in Sydney http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACpHDlHvYVY

Today's game is also live into Melbourne. Will be much better on TV than the other 2 with a packed Leichhardt Hill.

In Saturdays Herald Sun, in the TV section was this:

Wow! Is 2011 the year channel 9 are thawing towards rugby league? This week they played State of Origin in full - even the after match interviews - and now we get a Melbourne Storm away game live instead of at 1am!
