Was wanting to know some other forummers opinions on his musical talents, i mean, i hear alot of talk about Van Halen being a great guitarist, a few people also rated frusiante, anyways, i watched Hendrix last night on Max classics, it was a concert 18 days before his death, and im not that into rock, i like it, but its not really my thing, but i though he was f*cking amazing, just wondering, especially from people who may play guitar, if they feel the same way, or do people feel he was overrated?

meh, for his time he was amazing and unique, however technical ability? he wasn't a pimple on the arse compared to Vai, Van Halen etc

His stuff is very basic, however the way he played the guitar was unusual, but this doesn't necesarily make him a great guitarist in my view as technical ability is what it's all about, if you don't have any to start with you cannot make it.

I think you'll find that FunkyMonk was the only douche who rated fruciante that much. Speaking of which did he get banned? Haven't seen him around the boards with RHCP spam lately.

I think a big consensus on this board from guitarists is that he was overated, muchly based on the fact that they can play his songs too. Personally i think he was brilliant, perhaps not purely as a guitarist, but as an artist he was outstanding.

As a artist he was brillant, like a David Lee Roth but as far as technical ability he wasn't that great...

Actually it'd be a bitch trying to reach the 22nd fret playing a guitar upside down I reckon.

Was thinking the same. He is TOTALLY off his tree mate. LMFAO.... Wonder if it made him play better, or would have he been better without the ACID etc ??? A fair question I reckon. But what a natural talent mate in either case !!!! LOL....

Yeah, but tell me why his stuff was 'very basic'.

Because it was simple to play:?

I finished learning Hendrix when I was 14, if you think it was hard i wont let you near my Malmstein & Vai guitar books:lol: you'd sh*t yourself:lol:

I wouldn't know how to play guitar, so i wouldn't know what's basic or whats hard to play. But he's music was brilliant, and it's still being played 40 yrs after it's been released. That has got to tell you something.
