having not read the rest of the thread (it's too long) here's my 2c -

jimi was great for many reasons.. he was a pioneer of sorts for left handed guitarists (and played a right handed guitar upside down..). he was also amazing at improv and transferring raw emotion into/communicating with his music. he didn't need lyrics - the man could speak with his guitar.

definately a great - probably doesn't measure up to the likes of Vai, Satriani or Petrucci (probably the best guitarist alive imho) in terms of tech and difficulty.. but he had plenty going for him. you try and play a guitar upside down! :p

Technically he didn't.

He just bought right handed guitars and got the nut replaced, he'd still string them as one would with a conventional left handed guitar.

ahh very interesting - i don't personally play, just a muso at heart :). having seen pics of him playing i just assumed from the rest of the guitar begin upside down that the strings would be in reverse .

still looks cool though.

still - definately a pioneer in many ways.

You are spelling ''lighter fluid'' wrong...that could be your problem.

Try again with the correct spelling.

Thankyou come again.

a guitar talent quiz

1. What is harder to play the national anthem or three blind mice?

2. When burning your guitar is it more skillfull to start on the fretboard or on the scratch board

3. if i played E#7#9 is that more difficult than F7#9?

4. If i play 'wild thing' with my teeth and i am left handed does playing it with my lower teeth and not my upper teeth am i still left handed or right handed?

5. is heroin more important than a wah pedal?

Yo Millers, how come you have decided to invade this forum ? Are you bored or stupid ?

Put it this way sweetlips, if Dave Gilmour could come close to playing sh*t like this, then He would be the greatest. But he's not, is he ?

If Dave Gilmour could make a guitar sing like this, it couldnt possibly be LIVE could it ?

Like the person above, I cbf reading the whole topic but I think Hendrix is a great guitarist. Probably not the best, but he'd be right up there.

i do not claim gilmour as an exceptional guitarist either though i prefer his stuff to hendrix as it is cleaner and better thought out than a bunch of blues scales through a wha pedal

Im a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, and there's no way on earth he can come close to Hendrix. Only little wing, did he go close to matching the master. Dude, you are kidding if you call yourself the BLUESBREAKER. Hahahah, we've all had a good chuckle at your "blues" knowledge

What do you think of Robert Johnson ?

Sorry, I forgot all about this thread, f**kin as usual.

In my opinion, SRV's little wing sh*tS all over Hendrix, and is f**king 20 times as hard to play. I'm with RJ on this one, Little Wing is a piss easy song to play. If you're not a guitarist though, you can't comment, because you really have no f**king clue :).

My name bluesbreaker comes from a group name. I guess your fantastic blues knowledge doesn't extend to 60s britain.

As for Mr Johnson... You mean the guy who allegedly sold his soul to the devil for his freakish guitar playing ability (or his hand-span, covering an enormous distance of 11 frets) at the Crossroads? The guy who, although only recording around 30 songs in his entire life, was probably responsible for influencing more 20th century musicians than any other? The guy who originally recorded and, in some cases, wrote blues staples that every blues loving musician (including myself) can bust out (poorly in 12 bar chord form), like They're Red Hot (covered by RHCP and God himself), Me And The Devil blues, Dust My broom, Cross Roads blues, Sweet Home Chicago, Travelling Riverside blues etc etc etc... The dude who was ended allegedly by poison whiskey from a bar man whose wife he was shanking?

... Nup, never heard of him. From reading through this thread though, it's quite apparent to me that you're neither a) a guitarist or b) particularly versed in music, so i'll leave for another couple weeks and see if you can make a fool of yourself to me again later on. Maybe you can ask me about Albert King or Howlin' Wolf next week. We can chat about Smokestack lightnin' and born under a bad sign, it'll be grand.
