I think he did ok. I watched the game again this morning and he set the tone early with a penalty against Panthers(Rein in the ruck) and Manly seemed intent on pushing the limit. Not to mention 2 back chat penalties, a late shoulder on Cleary and marty taupau's weird hug on the ground.
Whoever was in the bunker needs a paddlin.

Most lop-sided penalty count since 2015. It was simply not a fair representation of both teams as ref'd by that muppet Perenara.

I wasn't so much talking about that game, just front rower saying that if a ref blows 14 penalties his performance should be reviewed.

lol I don't even know what you're getting at.

This whole thread is Manly fans bitching about the refs.

You felt the need to come in and offer nothing but your witty "Manly sucks" repertoire, so you must be a little bit angry or sad. Just trying to offer you a hug to let those demons out matey :)

What about when DWZ was tackled got up to play the ball and was tackled again got up and tackled a 3rd time that should of been a sin bin . Manly employed plenty of
westling tactics there was even a arm bar and full nelson from Marty Kapow.Anyway welome aboard Henry P Panther you are breath of fresh air .

Why????

If there are more than 14 infringements a game why shouldn't they be blown?

If the KPI is set at 14 as the benchmark and a ref is blowing more than the benchmark it allows analysis to take place to help educate. I would assume questions such as why were there more than 14 penalities blown? What steps could have been taken to reduce it (E.G. Sin bin)? does he need more coaching/education on rules so their interpretations are better? Does he need more experience in player/game management? Etc etc

Sure you will have outliers in which a ref might blow a high penalty count but if it's a consistent issue then there needs to be a process to iron out the issues.

Edit - spelling

Gould reckons the kpi is 16. Hard one, do you ref like origin and hope the players don't take the pss or do you ref it like union and be fair and blow up for every infringement.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Video ref rules on forward passes now with repeated replays?

Sorry, I misses the e-mail.

Didn't "conveniently" miss anything mate. Forward passes are argued about, disputed and disected every game. Picking up on a pattern here?

Bottom line is both teams had a dodgy try allowed, so it evened itself out in the end.

Maybe one way of speeding the game and reducing impact of penalties on the result is to have a quick tap at spot of penalty rather than kicking for touch? Be interesting to know how many tries get scored off the back of a penalty?

Yep so basically they just flip a coin and decide on the day just to leave us all guessing. Some rules like play the balls and forward passes just aren't enforced while others like the strip are just ridiculous.

The state of refereeing is as bad as it has ever been imo. Its embarrassing for the sport.

A couple of the strangest non calls of the weekend weren't even in this game

A Roosters player falls over trying to play the ball, makes a complete stuff up of it and nothing to see here, play on, pass to Guerra...... try. OK, I'll take it but if I was a Souths fan I'd be scratching one of my two heads

Storm player puts through a kick, is run into touch by Gutherson - blatant professional foul aaaand, nothing to see here. Move right along.... lol FMD

Exactly.
Both of those games were FAR WORSE in officiating.
But not to Manly fans.
There has to be some sort of investigation into Manly fans.

Try given off a ball taken out of the hands by a player in front of the catcher
Penrith dummy half passes the ball into Tom T who did the right thing by rolling out of the play the ball -- penalty

Some bizarre calls and not just Perenara being trigger happy in the ruck.

The KPI would have have to reviewed throughly and yes it should be assumed that refs that don't penalize enough should be scrutinized as well, asking the same questions as above.

Just out of curiosity I had a look at the stats on the weekend. On average there were 70 sets of 6 in each game. If the KPI is set at 14 that would mean 1 in every 5 sets incurs a penalty and would be deemed acceptable. At 16 that means 1 in every 4 sets would incur a penalty and be deemed acceptable.

You could go one further when Burgess played the ball sideways and was allowed to get away with it.
