Indeed doggone in all seriousness very astute business decision for him and his playing future.

So just how much have we freed up for next year that was taken so far.

Conservatively speaking what have we freed up for next year so far.

Henry: $200k
Patto: $250k

I dont think we've seen the end of the clean out to be honest with you either.

I can understand moving on Henry especially if he is on $220k a season but I am completely against it happening now. As others have said, it sends the wrong message for this season where there is still a top 8 to be achieved.

Also a slap in the face to Stone and whatever people think of him, he hasn't had one settled season to show his true worth.

If we're looking for the positive angle on all the carnage and chaos I think it's this: in the days of the salary cap, winning premierships is all about getting that balance between a few really top notch players in key positions and guys that can do a job but not cost too much (journeymen turned good/young talent than steps up immediately etc).

This will be Bennett's approach. Henry doesn't fit that category because he costs too much. Roberts fits it perfectly. Same with Pato compared to KOD for example.

I expect to see a couple of the juniors step up massively next season and provide incredible value for money. It's what all the top sides achieve. Then the salary cap bites and you are forced to lose a few of them, but it's been a while since we were even put in that position.

Roberts, Mata'utia, Cook, Tetevano, O'Donnell, Filipo, and maybe even Morseau, Sims, Kali and more could all potentially step up under Bennett and become instant first-graders. I have faith. It will probably all come down to Gids/Mullen combination - if it works, we will be fine. If it doesn't, who knows...

It probably explains his recent form also, he must have known he was on the outter.

I don't like it, but what can you do, just hope the replacements do better.

I have been a bit of stone hater since the start but yep..... Rather ordinary.

Man it must suck that a couch that hasnt even come to your club yet is making all these massive calls and changing your whole team. We'll only know if its for the better over the next few seasons I guess.

Wonder if Mullo is beginning to look over his shoulder?

Very happy for Bennett to do a clean out. A few more Bennett signings and four years of his systems being implemented through the club at NRL and NYC level plus the local area should set us up for long term success. This may be the last mass cleanout we will need for a long time. I find it hard to argue against what he is doing at the moment. There's no perfect time to do this. Get in or you miss out. Simple. The next crop of stars will be bred not bought. Fingers crossed.

Henry's manager is a genius - 3 year deal for big money for a kid who has played about 15 ordinary games in the last two years - genius.
Meanwhile, another guy who won the NYC halfback of the year, Murray, will probably trial for a 55k contract with us next year in the hope of playing under Bennett.

We are still paying $90K of Pato's salary next year under the cap...

Shame Henry is going he would have thrived under WB.

Forgetting that your post could be sarcasm........it would appear however

that Bennett doesn't rate him

or he doesn't get along with Wayne.

Sure seems like Henry moved away from the dragons to get a shot a 1st grade

Now Wayne's followed him

so he has had to move on again.

For the betterment of his career, he may have to take out a restraining order against Bennett.

$220K a year for the best half talent in the Toyota Cup before a season ending injury - his manager was doing his job adequately. Don't get jealous Roop because none of your precious juniors would have earned the reputation, nor shown the form to get anywhere near that sort of cash. Have to say still haven't even this year.

Don't tell me - Wayne Bennett is the guy who needs to hear how much you think he is worth big money on 2 year old NYC form.

I'm not talking to Wayne Roop - I'm talking to you. Rest assured if it was a Knights junior this happened to you would be making every excuse under the sun why it was unjust.

Surprised this happened now but I'm not surprised it happened. The guy is average. He might turn into something in the future but I doubt it. Carving up non existant NYC defense does not automatically mean your gonna be a good NRL player and if we are paying him 220K that is massive overs. Bennett prides his sides on defense and Henry has thus far proven a massive liability in this area. Some will say Soward is the same, but his other skills more than make up for it.

All I can say is:

When he left the Dragons last year, we liked to think it was because the Dragons have a settled halves pairing, rather than Bennett not rating him.

Now that Bennett has sent him packing twice, he just quite clearly doesn't rate him.

We've seen very mixed performances from him this year, but I think an overriding factor has been his lack of ability in defence. I suspect Bennett just won't cop someone who won't put his body on the line.

Furthermore, Roberts is a ready-made replacement who would be on a quarter of the salary, and has probably been more impressive than Henry in the top level overall.

I'm willing to back Bennett on this, as I am with most things, particularly because I am sure our team will be fine without him. But Henry could still become a great player elsewhere.

As for how the Titans of all teams were able to afford him...f**ked if I know.
