well its true.

you can plot the course,

he slices the jersey. we dont beat another top 8 team that year. thrash the nuffies and then lose in the playoffs.
2000 - ET retires
2001 - Lang and Rat leave. preston emerges
2002. anderson arrives, kimmorley show. preston submerges
2003. 74-4. meanwhile lang and preston hold the cup.
2004. Raper.
2005. Peach punted. kimmorleys origin game.
2006. 10 game losing streak
2007. Ricky arrives. lose alot of close games.
2008. sharks good. then bird. thrashed in semis
2009. Reni, Zapps, Gallen, Bird, Barrett. FFS

all the while we lose money every year and the crowds get smaller and smaller.

There has been a massive membership drive and so far it has netted a little over 50% of last years membership. A percentage of those are out of towners too I'd guess. Plenty of Qlders for example. Canberrians.

If the community was re engaged people would of jumped all over these memberships.

People in my circle, long time Sharks fans of 30-42 years are not re engaged. The Sharks are hardly even a discussion point over a drink.

Anyway, as you allude to, it can't be quantified; but that works both ways and to therefore claim community re engagement is premature at best.

This.

RCB, you constantly question why the Shire isn't behind the team. Fair question. I spoke to my old man about this at length the other day, and this is the conclusion we reached.

* If the Sharks folded tomorrow, the Shire would go on as normal. No "spanner in the works". We supposedly came close this year and there was hardly pandemonium on the streets.

* Families have moved to the area over the last 50 years, but they've never adopted the team. As their families have grown, they've stuck with the teams that their dads and pops followed. I've lost count of the people I know who follow Saints, Parra, Dogs, Easts for that reason.

* How do you connect with a team with no real history or culture behind it? It isn't a battler's team like Tigers or Eels, nor a founding club like Easts, a glamour club like Broncos or one with a colourful history with league greats or legendary premiership campaigns (or any, for that matter) . It's a team from an area that is effectively surrounded by many other older and more successful teams and league nurseries.

* The demographic that Frenzy refers to (and above and below for that matter), people that used to be serious Sharks fans, now seem to not give a stuff. Years of mediocrity on the field and at the club's helm seem to have done irrepairable damage. I don't think any amount of PR work can undo the kind of apathy these people have for the club. The area, they may love, but I think the "Your Shire, Your Sharks" campaign has been weak and has evidently not made a difference to the membership dilemma.

My interest in the team has waned significantly over the last two years. Too many years of the Pierce cancer have gutted the club of what little soul it had. As someone who supported the club's punting of Seymour and Bird, I'd give it away if the club effectively forced the only character it has on its payroll off the plank of the sinking ship, for something as trivial as taking a slash in public.

I still go, and I've retained my seat for this year. But it was a rare occasion last season that I didn't leave the ground in an angry mood. I hope it's not a repeat this year, particularly if Bird gets stuck into us. Dragons supporters I know are just sitting back laughing at the moment.

Im rather bemused as to how this new ceo came out and to the media and publicized his thoughts , wouldn't a man of such a classy seat privately consulted with the parties and said 'what the f**k " not this plot thickening bullsh*t...

Maybe you guys will get some sponsors now..

sirshire, my old man is a dragqueens supporter.

i moved to the shire sometime through primary school.

started hanging out with crowds that went to sharks games, eventually turned into a fan.

maybe thats what needs to be done.
branch out to other crowds and persuade those who are unsure.

but one thing is for sure. shire people don't like to leave the shire.

maybe thats where the problem is.

Long suffering Shark supporters .... Popper, question without notice from the floor.

I mention this earlier but it has been irking me ever since.

Can anyone remember the last time someone from our club went into serious bat mode for one of our players.

I can't. I can't remember the last time someone from within the inner sanctum got up and spoke from the heart about one of our own blokes.

Cheers

Yes. Nice analysis there.

Good point Quigs.

Sticky continually rapped the blokes at post match gigs last year when the sh*te buried the fan, but the rest of the farggers can be tied to poles and carried to the town limits for all I care.

I'm sick of reading newspaper articles about some new suit we've hired who then craps on about what a great job he's gonna do after the bum years we've had and then he pops his friggin head up again to stick the boot into Gallen.

Who are these turdburgers?

SirShire pegged me with the line, "people that used to be serious Sharks fans, now seem to not give a stuff.'

I would deadest sink into a depression once if we lost on the weekend.
Now I feel very little attachment to this mob, if any at all.

I f**king truly hope Gallen leaves and wins a comp.
Who of us would stick at a job and get sh*tkicked by a bunch of priks like these dimwits who have moved into our club.

I won't bear to be able to watch the Titans play.
Preston, Rat and Bird - 3 blokes who did not want to leave our club - starring every week.
Seymour the same and now Gallen.

The f**king F Troop that we'll be forced to support next year while these blokes are plying their wares for opposition teams makes me friggin ropeable.

We are hurtling to oblivion because we hire mercenaries in suits who have no emotional attachment to the club.
They go from post to post, from sport to sport, club to club - as one job folds another opens up.
We are merely a stepping stone for them.
It was different when we had local guys like Gow in key positions within the club.

Put ET and Gav in some of those roles and see the if the players receive a bit more support

Sullivan, yep.
But I think, generally speaking, that our club is so shyt scared of losing sponsors and getting offside with the League heirarchy that they would sacrifice anybody to stay in good. With our assets we should be well established by now. But we're not. Maybe we will be in the future but the development that was meant to save us became so protracted that perhaps it is now too late. I see new Boards, new CEO and that gives me hope. But when I look at our problems that soon dissipates. Our playing roster does not inspire confidence either. Then I think of Balmain 69, St.George 77, et al and I feel a glimmer of hope. But I do not believe we should be pyssing off star players, we should be doing our utmost to amicably retain them.

I'm a bit like you 73. I don't get anywhere near as upset at a loss as I used. Might be age as well.

And I agree with you Quigs. That could be age as well.

During '09 I found myself more interested in local league than the NRL. Sad but a reality. Even then my club seems to get farked over by the richer more powerful clubs. Must be my lot in life.
