meanwhile...trust the rorters to take some flame away
Sydney Roosters hooker Jake Friend is again fighting to save his career after being arrested and charged over a weekend altercation with a taxi driver.
It is the third time time this year that Friend has
run foul of the law after being convicted of drink driving following a team bonding session and charged over a night club brawl later in the season.
Friend, who re-signed with the Roosters for three more years in August, was arrested on Saturday night after a taxi driver alleged he tried to evade paying the fare.
Roosters management have advised the NRL, which last week announced new guidelines for off-field incidents.
The Roosters, who earlier this year stood Friend down for two weeks after he was charged with drink driving, will be expected to take action against Friend before handing the matter over to the NRL.
A tribunal comprising NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley and former players Michael Buettner and Mark O'Neill will then review the case and the way the club has handled it before making a recommendation to NRL chief executive David Gallop on whether tougher action is required.
The NRL has also appointed a private investigator who will submit her own report on the incident to the tribunal panel.
After his previous indiscretions, which include being suspended from driving for 18 months and fined $850 for drink driving, Friend's immediate playing career is in the balance as the Roosters have made it clear they want to change the club's image under new coach Brian Smith.
He is also still facing an assault charge over an incident at The Tank nightclub in The Rocks in which the niece of ABC radio commentator David Morrow alleged she was punched.
The arrest comes just days after the Roosters staged a mock court hearing where star halfback Mitchell Pearce was accused of indecent assault after a boozy Christmas drinks session.
The simulated trial was designed to educate the Roosters players that everythiing they do has a consequence.
The NRL is also awaiting a report from Cronulla on an incident in which Test backrower Paul Gallen was fined for allegedly urinating in a public place.
Sharks boss Richard Fisk is due to meet with Gallen early this week to discuss the incident at Kings Wharf last Friday night
