But Sheedy claimed last night he had never heard of the NRL superstar.
"I've only ever heard of Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide," he said, showing
his ignorance of the size of the challenge facing Aussie Rules.

These AFL boys will come waltzing in.. pay little respects and yet pull
more fans and have bigger crowds on Day 1.

I dont like it anymore then you do.. but it will happen.

I think to say that the AFL are ignorant and will find it tough is just giving yourself false hope..

as i said in another post.. the AFL will waltz in to West Syd.. pay no respects and pull more fans and bigger crowds on day 1.

Which we will all hate.. but it will happen.. gurantee it.

Unless Hindy shotguns every AFL fan dead at the gates lol

When you sit back and assess what has happened since Sheedy's appointment, you'd have to say that rugby league reporters (particularly News Ltd) are the AFL's best asset.

And where will these AFL fans come from?

Sheedy gunna pull 'em out of his arse?

38 million buses coming up the Hume?

They gunna advertise their game as "Parra v Canterbury"?

You are the typical brain dead knob that these stupid articles are aimed at!

Gee - Some people are easy to fool..

Of coarse he knows who Hindmarsh is..

But if he admitted that...No one here would have said "AFL" "Kevin Sheedy" or "GWS" all day long...

Don't take the bait...

good to see our high profile players being used in this way and hopefully Hindy will keep his nose clean and do a great job as a RL ambassodor in teh Western burbs.

Got to love AFL causing antagonism towards RL, if there is anything that will cause it to struggle it will be getting on the wrong side of the RL loving public in Sydney!

Agree - in a sensible manner as you quite correctly noted.

If we expand in the botched up way that AR has like some here demand *cough* Perth Red *cough* we'll be cactus well before Heather loses his final strand of hair.

Looks like time for another expansion thread! :)

The saying does go all publicity is good publicity. But to show such ignorance of your target market isn't a smart idea.
There were/are probably a fair few people who would be tossing up whether or not to go see a GWS game, but this will leave a sour taste in many mouths.
Even if he didnt know Hindmarsh, he could have said yeah good luck to him, im hear to promote afl. Same sort of sentiment without looking like a pompous d!ck

Yes, in a way there is no such thing as bad puiblicity.

Unless that publicity involves people going "who is that f**king knob trying to kill Rugby League? He doesn't even have a clue about what people from Western Sydney do and who they follow, and he wants us to follow his team? Get f**ked, f**k him off back to Mexico"

Actually I don't think they will fail. The AFL will make sure of that, they will pour millions of dollars into that team until its successful like the Swans.
Apparently they have already sold out their NAB Cup game against Carlton to be played at Blacktown.

What? At their 10K seat capacity stadium?

One of the first rules of war is know thine enemy.

However, the AFL is deadly serious about establishing in rugby league heartlands and is there for the long haul. We can either take it seriously and fight back, or become a secondary competition quarantined largely to Sydney and Brisbane. Some people, including Ray Hadley, seem to like the idea of a retreat to the heartlands. I don't. Our game has proved it has the potential for a genuine national reach but to attract the corporate and media backing for this it must to continue to examine opportunities for expansion.

The AFL will soon have TWO teams in league's heartlands. At the same time, many league supporters say melbourne is a waste of time and should be scrapped. I say let's put out a plan for a team in perth, sooner rather than later, and in the medium term a second team in Victoria.

Not in my lifetime... as much as I'd love a Victorian NRL derby it won't happen until well after I've shuffled off.

F*ck off! How the hell would they do that?

Are you a turd chewer like Sheedy - who expects that Western Sydney was just waiting for an AR game to be played so they can suddenly all ditch their generations-long passion for League and soccer?

If that's all they have to do to jag a big crowd, why are they wasting their time in Blacktown when New York, London and Tokyo await?

F*ck off you AFL loving twat!
