Paul Osbourne revealed the figures toured in the media for Hopoate's salary are complete bollocks. Not only that, John Hopoate has not been offered a coaching job.
Wouldn't that be funny if Will is on 350-400K and Manly still didn't get him.

As if you're paying him $350,000 in 2014. The salary cap should go up for a start and I doubt we offered him peanuts. $800,000 sounds about right and don't worry he'll get plenty of exercise riding his bike around getting doors slammed in his face the poor god bothering fool. All the best to him and I admire his conviction to his faith but I doubt he'll save a single person from the flames of hell.

I think someone should ask Trent if he still feels he made the right choice after seeing the rookie Cherry-Evans win his first premiership last Sunday

Considering Hodkinson isn't as good a player as Cherry-Evans, I think he knows he probably wouldn't have won if he'd stayed. In fact, he might not even be playing first grade so I'm sure he's happy with the money.

Speaking of which, we fans talk about premierships as if they're the holy grail, but they don't help you retire in comfort.

I'm sure Nathan Hindmarsh will enjoy his retirement more than a premiership winner like Sean Rudder, because premiership rings don't buy you financial security.

Yeah Paul Osbourne is likely to tell the media what they really paid for Hopoate.... If it wasn't for money why would Hopoate want to leave Manly? It is his home, he has a great coach that he is close to, great mates who he said are like brothers, has experienced success, and he has continually said he loves the place and doesn't want to leave.

Parramatta fans are clearly deluded if they believe they signed Sandow and Hopoate without paying out the arse. It is no coincidence that both Manly and Souths have said the offer was so big they were blown away. Both clubs tried hard to re-sign their players, so it's not like Parramatta slipped under the radar got in first.

Anyway, I still think we're a good chance of getting him back down the track. Good on him for setting himself up financially.

The tempter was the opportunity to play under Kearney, the big under 20s contract for Jamil, and all the church boys at Parra that Will feels close to.

You have to admit that the arrogant, whinging Stewart brothers and the mindlessly violent Darcy Lussick hardly foster an atmosphere that young Will would feel at home in.

lol like i said before that's probably why he is happy finishing his career with just the one premiership ring But cant agree with Kearney as Hasler is easily the better coach & the relationship between Hasler & Will\the Hopoate clan has always been excellent.

Def the under 20's contract for Jamil & probably some more $$\perks would be the tipping point in Eels favour

We stole your gun junior Will Hopoate. I'd say that's a pretty low merkin act in itself. You never would have seen that from the pre-2009 Eels.

Previously we had a CEO - Denis FitzFail - who refused to shell out the big bucks to any player at another club. Even the 'Canterbury Four' of 1996 weren't poached by Parra - they had signed ARL contracts and couldn't stay at the (Super League) Bulldogs, and it was actually guys like Fulton and Gould who were instrumental in getting them to the Eels.

Anyway I'm sure you can see the new ruthless Eels are here, and we know it's new because this is the first time Manly fans have ever had to cry about losing a player they wanted to keep. Especially to Parramatta.

I imagine it must be frightening for you, as change generally is.

Agreed. Men who stay at the one club despite not tasting much success deserve massive kudos. Gallen will probably be at the Sharks for life despite it becoming almost certain he won't get to win a Grand Final.
