What next will you be saying he accidently shoved his finger up peoples backsides?

No, he deserved every bit of ban he got for that, and more.

I am specifically referring to this incident.

And BTW, that hit he made on Tsolous was brilliant. That's what I mean, it doesn't take much to go wrong.

What a sad end to what was going to be a promising career when he burst onto the scene...

A cat has apparently 9 lives, so did John Hopoate who is now gone from the professional form of Rugby League. When he wasn't niggling the opposition or carrying on like a U14 player, he was quite a force from the wing.

So be it, it had to happen and I applaud Manly here who make another tough call sacking their 2nd player for 2005 (I am including Walker here).

Enjoy retirement, best wishes to you and your large family Hoppa.

Let's hope Galloway returns to action soon and we are not stuck on this thread for too long. ;-)

I don't know where it says that shoulder charges are performed with your elbow held out horizontally, but maybe I'm missing something.

A shame to see his career end like this. He really was a very good player when he wasn't acting like a dope.

I agree.

I might be the only one (and I'll probably get blasted for this), but I think 17 weeks is a tad harsh, especially considering Danny Williams only got one more for deliberately king hitting an opposition player when he had his back turned.

If it was anyone but Hoppa, the suspension would have been far, far less.

I know he is an idiot and brings it onto himself, but I do feel sorry for him in a weird kind of way. He had the talent - just not the brains.

Deserved every single week and hey what other player can put up there hand for the stupid things that hoppa's done? None, Julian O'Neil came close but we've never seen a bigger idiot then hopper in the game.

Goodbye.

Goodriddence.

And please Hoppa never show your face again!

Pretty pathetic comment I dont hate the man personally I just hate him as an athlete and believe that for the games reputation and for other players safety he had to go.

I reckon it is highly likely we will see Hoppa wearing a Knights jersey before the end of 2005. The Knights will wait till the dust settles then offer him a match payments contract. They are desperate for anyone who can provide a bit of go forward and that is what Hoppa can do, even if it won't be until Round 20ish.

Some of you probably thought Hoppa's career was over after his bum poking exploits but he came back with Manly didn't he. If Manly can sign him after an on field sexual assault then the Knights shouldn't have any concerns over signing him after a high tackle.

but it's his record and the fact that he has had numerous chances to resume his career and blown them that will see no nrl club touch him. can you imagine a clubs' sponsor reaction when they realise they are speaking to hoppa? they would more than likely pull the plug on their deal if any club signed hoppa. and i heard today that if he didn't plead guilty, he would've got 24 (that's right-24) weeks.

let's face facts. hoppa's had his chances and he's stuffed himself. any club even considering signing him, with his previous record and baggage, would be very foolish.

Hey, he's a Shark fan, he is still bitter about the fact that they couldn't beat a 12 man Manly team.

Hoppa just posted a statement on mightyeagles.com saying he will not play league again -- Australia or England, or any other sport.

i think he said that because he realises that NO club from league or union wants a bar of him. and they would be idiots if they do.
