Horribly Over-Rated Bands

U2 have probably changed the most of all bands spanning that long a career.
Look at the massive change from rattle and hum to Achtung baby.

U2 will go down in history with The Beatles & The Rolling Stones.

Anyone who says that their music is all the same, aint listened to much of their music.

For a band that has been producing hit after hit after hit for 30 years, they must be doing something right.

They get written of by the "critics" every time they produce something new, because it isnt "cool" for the critics to like mainstream.

Over rated for me, is anything being churned out from the Australian Idol factory or the same "soul" songs that keep coming out of the US, just sung by a different person, with a few different words. Its sooooo boring.

It could be that they're boring as sh*t, too.

Probably gonna get a pounding for this one but I'm yet to see what the fuss is with the Rolling Stones.
Should a bands/arists longevity be a factor in them being over or underrated?

with the stones, just ignore the recent and 80s stuff. while some is good, it's not ground breaking. their run of records however in the late 60s early 70s are fantastic.

From Beggars and Let it Bleed, through to Sticky Fingers and Exile. Brilliant records. Also, check out the reissue of get yer ya ya's out. A fantastic live recording.

Agree with Rolling Stones. Deserve to be rated, but not as highly rated as they are.

I think U2 is in the same boat for me and I am even a fan of theirs. Good, but not as good as they're made out to be.

Muse - I must have been living in a cave when this band became the biggest thing in music. To hear them compared to some of the best bands in history is just plain insulting to music.

Hahaha, agreed.

Cold Chisel - I don't care what people say, they are NOT Australia's greatest band. IMO that goes to AC/DC, and comparing AC/DC to them is an insult to acca dacca.

Green Day - never thought they had anything going for them.

Nirvana - see Green Day.

Fall Out Boy - the singer has an intriguing voice. They can't write music or play.

Placebo - I never got the hype. Bland as hell.

Muse - hate them. Their new song is a rip off of another song whose title I can't recall at this point. I was insulted when someone said, "You like Opeth, Katatonia and Amorphis, right? This band will be right up your alley!" And they showed me Muse...

This is my two cents:

AC/DC - every song sounds the same and it wasn't even good the first time

Jet - If I want to listen to 60s/70s music then I'll listen to the real deal, not a blatant rip-off (the new song sounds just like My Sharona)

Powderfinger - boring radio friendly rock

Bon Jovi - see above, only more annoying

These are the first that spring to my mind.

Fair enough mate. On the same level with you now. I'm not having a go at anyone's music taste in this thread, for the record.

With U2 and Coldplay, I find it's just generic music with very little change between a portion of their songs. Kings Of Leon and Green Day fit the same, in a more modern era

Metallica, well, I hear too many people say stuff like "they're the best heavy metal band", and though I like some of their stuff, they should never fit the title.

Although with the whole "listing popular bands I dont like" thing, well the Nirvana/RATM/Pumpkins thing you could be right, admittedly. I do like a portion of songs from each band, but I still can't see what the fuss is all about with grunge. Nickelback could fit, again, into a modern feeling of this.

But, now I'm interested to hear in your opinion.

Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for all are arguably two of the best thrash metal albums ever made. You could argue their newer stuff hasn't hit the mark, but to be overrated your music can't be all that great in the first place IMO. Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for all and The Black album are all quality albums, if you create 5 good albums in your career, you're hardly overrated IMO.

Nickelback, Creed, Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Green Day etc etc fit the bill. Whilst they may have released a decent album here or there, the majority of their music is garbage. The came can't be said of metallica.

Truth be told I don't mind them that much, but I reckon Australians over-rate them severely.

How are Arcade Fire overated when they've only released two records and both have been deemed succesful?

Kings of Leon - All their songs sound the same, and none of them are great. For me, they're a band who had a big hit song and the hype that came after it was sickening. I'd be happy to never hear another song of theirs.

Muse - I must have been living in a cave when this band became the biggest thing in music. To hear them compared to some of the best bands in history is just plain insulting to music.

Radiohead - Much like Kings of Leon in that all of their songs sound the same, i've listened to their so called hits and nearly blew my brains out from boredom. I cannot understand their popularity. They had something like 4 songs very high up in the list in JJJ's hottest 100 of all time, all f**king time.

Mate, I asked for your opinion, and you gave one that I can bloody well relate to.

For Muse, I don't mind some of their stuff, but when I hear music from the new album I cannot stand it. Mostly Queen rip-offs.

And I also can't believe how Radiohead got as high as they did in the Hottest 100, just like Buckley.

Green Day definitely fit the bill.

Red Hot Chili Peppers as well. They have some good tunes but Anthony Kiedis is such a crappy lyricist and singer.

Never understood what was so great about The Who.

The Clash are nothing special either.

Agreed lyrics about LA & California do get stale after a while...
