Every last one of them. Useless people.

I have more respect for my rubbish man, a courier and telemarketers.

Music is fine as a hobby, the fact these useless people even get paid at all shows everything that is wrong with society.

You would think they do something worthwhile like cure disease, design or build but no we reward useless humans.

Truth be told I don't mind them that much, but I reckon Australians over-rate them severely.

And a lot of people underrate them severly because bogans like them, which is terrbly unfair.

I'm not a big fan of the Stones either, and the RHCP are horrible, sorry.

Although in my opinion Nirvana are every bit deserving of their place.

Never understood what was so great about The Who.

The Clash are nothing special either.
:O

wtf is wrong with you.

The Who are the Godfather's of punk music they invented the attitude, Peter Townshend was the first guy ever to break a guitar on stage, Baba O'Reilly is arguably one of the greatest rock songs ever f**k you man.

Dobn't get me started on how awesome the clash are.

Your average Aussie wanks on and on about Chisel and Barnesy like they're demigods of music, completely ignoring AC/DC. Now, AC/DC may not be everyone's cup of tea but they broke all sorts of records and are known the world over - I am not sure I can say the same for Chisel.

Once again, I don't mind them, but if I was to name Australia's most influential rock band Chisel would be second or third on my list tbh.

Tim Armstrong is talked of as some sort of modern day poet, yet they have so many sh*t songs. And out come the wolves was a great album and their stuff from earlier than that was enjoyable, but since then they have alot of rubbish

Pretty much. A few good songs here and there don't make an amazing band. Heck, I would easily rate a more consistent band like The Living End higher up. AC/DC, well, I don't think we'll ever see a better Australian band, mainly because of the lack of competition.

The thing is, every successful band/artist is considered overrated by somebody and every band/artist that never quite made it big is underrated by somebody.

I assume that by overrated we mean, critically acclaimed (eg some of the ridiculously unwarranted creaming I see over The Strokes) but are really just plonkers.

I think most current music that sells is overrated. Place any of it against the quality of sh*t that was coming out 20 and 30 years ago and it wouldn't rate a mention.

I would never dispute AC/DC's place, they're the most popular band Australia's ever produced, and beloved a bit more than you're letting on. I think it's a nostalgia thing with Chisel, besides The Last Wave Of Summer or the odd "reunion" gig, they haven't released an album or toured for 25 years, whereas AC/DC are still an active recording and touring entity.

Besides, as you can tell by his solo career, Barnsey is nothing without Don Walker's songs to sing.

For mine, I've never seen what the big fuss is over U2 and the beatles.
I've always felt they (particularly the latter of the two) were popular for being popular. Sure they were probably deserving of their popularity 40-50 years ago, but not these days.
As for U2, they've never struck me as being particularly extraordinary. I think a lot of their popularity is due to Bono getting his face out there for lots of environmental causes, so people like that. It's great to see famous people putting their fame to good uses, so I have no problem with that, but I believe people therefore associate this with him and his band as being greater than they are.

Of the current lot, I'd say Kings Of Leon are right up there in the overrated catagory, however the same could be said for a lot of the current crop of singers and groups! Time will tell with them though.

How could I forget the Sex Pistols?

Add the Ramones to that list as well.

I have seen both of them.
Both were awesome.

Two highlights of my gig going life.... and I have seen just about all of them.

The sex pistols shyte on many so called big current bands ( at the time )I had seen.
