Nickelback. I am still trying to work out what Australian radio's obsession is with them? You are guaranteed to hear at least 3 of their songs every single day...

Ooh great call on Parkway Drive. Add Red Shore to that. Australian metal is woeful at best.

yeh i cant understand how theyre so popular BUT i do have respect for those guys though after watching their DVD on how they got big without any real healp and just sticking to it and plugging along, just normal dudes from Byron Bay....they dont seem up themselves or anything either, BUT dont like their music....havnt heard Red Shore and yeh aussie metal lacks.....bring back the old days like Segression i say

I get what you are saying but Australia has some great metal, both old and new IMO.
Eg:

Deströyer 666 - "Unchain the Wolves", "Phoenix Rising", "Cold Steel... for An Iron Age" (new one, "Defiance", isn't too bad either).
Blackened Thrash/Death
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg-Kva94R7Q

Psycroptic - "The Scepter of the Ancients"
Technical Death Metal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaL2PB8Ol_Q

Portal - "Seepia", "Outre'", "Swarth" (this is probably as inaccessible as it gets though...)
Trying to put them into a genre is hard... experimental death/black metal?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emrBZZtGFgI

Paramaecium - "Exhumed of the Earth"
Doom/Death.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1_f64qAyCw

Mortification - "Scrolls of the Megilloth"
Thrash/Death
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmuxmtiK06o (quality isn't amazing).

Virgin Black - "Requiem - Mezzo Forte", "Requiem - Fortissimo"
Doom/Goth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGN61Sidt5c

Mournful Congregation - "The Monad of Creation", "The June Frost"
Funeral Doom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjfK3bcfZbA

Sadistik Exekution - "The Magus", "We Are Death... f**k You!"
Death/Black.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFWqWz1KLgo

Renegade - "Total Armageddon"
Thrash.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xie0uGrcuw

Misery's Omen - "Hope Dies"
Kinda hard to classify.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE7bYzpc4tI

Stargazer - "The Scream That Tore the Sky"
Avant-garde Black/Death Metal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmoP5dlU2wo

And theres more where that came from.

Slipknot would have to be one of, if not the most commercially known metal band of the recent decade in the "charts".
Plus all their fans who crap on about Jordison being the best drummer evar!

Speaking of which.
DragonForce.

In the early 00's maybe, but they're barely a blip on the radar these days. Their first commercial album was a massive success but every one since has seen a decline in sales. I doubt 1 in 1000 people could tell you their last single, but you'll get a few saying spit it out, wait and bleed etc etc. Bands like System of a Down saw to the commercial death of slipknot, the only people who still listen to them are trend followers that are a decade late.

I actually liked the subliminal verses by slipknot. Some good melodic parts in it.

I quite like Slipknots stuff, much more melodic underneath the bludgeoning percussion than people thought. then they just stopped fighting it and wrote melodies. Corey Taylor's detour with Stone Sour probably helped that side of things along.

Australian metal is not bad:

Abominator
Bestial Warlust
Nazxul
Gospel Of The Horns
Ruins
Abramlein
Alchemist
The Berzerker
Psycroptic (EXCELLENT band)
Dawn Of Azazel
Black Boned Angel
Disembowelment
The Amenta
Lightforce
Virgin Black

I can vouch for them all.

Great call re rise against. They were an awesome band, Revolutions per Minute is one of the best albums of the decade, but their last album was a pile of commercialised rubbish.

After reading through this thread anyone would think that every single chord ever recorded and release for commercial gain is overrated

Meh
You listen to stuff like Black Masks and Gasoline, Dead Ringer and Torches then listen to Long Forgotten Sons and Re-Education and you shake your head and think what have they become.
Their live show is pretty average as well, they were just going through the motions in March when they played, and played a set dominated by the last two albums. Siren Song is excellent, Suffer and the Witness is decent as well but Appeal to Reason was very, very average.

i still enjoy appeal to reason though each to their own i guess but i see where ur coming from in a sense coz yeh i dont enjoy long forgotten sons (prob only song on the album i dont enjoy) i thought they were great in march, i saw them at taste of chaos 07 (i think it was) and big day out 05.....05 was my fav performance but thought they were great in march and didnt mind the set dominated by sufferer (mostly) becoz i love that album but i love all rise against

Converge

Absolutely love the SONG Jane Doe, but honestly I cant find another track off both Axe to Fall and Jane Doe that I enjoy.

I like alot of other bands that play a similar style of fast and brutal music, however i just cant find much to like with Converge.

The song Jane Doe is probably in the top 5 songs that I've ever listened too. Strangely i cant find anything else as attractive.
