The Haunted

Toad The Wet Sprocket

Mastodon (can't believe people don't rate these guys - it's insanity)

Hackneyed

Really? Pretty sure they're one of the biggest metal bands in the world right now mate.

Their latest album has apparently sold 250,000 copies, probably one of the highest of any metal album this year, and has been in the charts all around the world. In Aus for example it debuted at number 19, US as high as 11th, Finland as high as 6th.

Plus, all I ever hear about is people going on about how amazing these guys are (although personally I'm not really a fan).

So yeah, I can't really see how they're underrated. I mean, they're not exactly a pop group so they're not going to reach the popularity or acclaim of a band like Coldplay, Nickelback, etc. :p

Amorphis is fairly rated and respected in the metal underground, particularly their first couple albums, however I see what you mean in that they never really broke totally into the mainstream and lately seem to be less popular... although I guess that's probably because they've DRASTICALLY changed their style which would have lost them some of their fan base hey.

Going from some of the stuff I've seen you post in this forum you should try "The Chasm" that I mentioned earlier in this thread, you might like them mate. :D

Bobot Adrenalin (a really good political punk rock band)
Jerry's Kids (a metal band from 80s noone's heard of)
Most underground east coast emcees especially Marco Polo affiliates

Carina Round, she's pretty much unknown, I only found out about her because she was singing backing vocals for Maynard James Keenan's side project (Puscifer).

Good Call On A Day To Remember, got a ticket to their sidehow for soundwave and seeing them at soundwave.

other bands i think dont get as much credit as they deserve

The Almost (member from underoath) imo sh*ts on underoath
Anti-flag - i know theyre popular but theyre under-rated for how long they have been around
The Bronx - not as big as i think they should be....alot of people still ask who are they? when i talk about them

I am gonna come out and say one that will get slammed...but anyway.

The Vines.
They cop heaps ( on here) and are pretty/very unpredictable live.

However even though the singer ( Nichols ) has a pretty confronting mental illness he can still produce some great pop music.

Every album has some classic pop melodies and harmonies.

I agree. He has written some terrific melodies, and Get Free is one hell of a rock song.

For underrated bands, I'll throw in Buffalo Tom, one of the most consistantly good yet ignored bands to come out of the states in the last 20 years.

why thank you good sir, yeh FTTW is awesome i even dig their new cd Nothing to Prove is great too

so many of those older punk bands are under-rated in my opinion not many people give them the time of day and actually have a decent listen

bands like

Bouncing Souls
Social Distortion (to an extent because theyre pretty popular)
older Pennywise from Pennywise to Straight Ahead even from the ashes is awesome
Strung Out (only album i kinda dont like is blackhawks over los angeles but havnt given it a good listen)
No Use For A Name

and another band i really dig at the moment is swingin utters
