Personally, I despise all styles of punk with emo near the top of that list.
But I do agree that Linkin Park don't even come close to being emo. The only thing they have in common is that they're completely useless.
I'm also offended by the term nu-metal - which Linkin Park sort of slot into - because it infers that these bands are metal when they are nothing of the sort.
Anyway, back to the initial topic, The Living End bore me to tears.
Emo is a loose term nowadays, so is punk.
When I think emo, I think the great indie emo pop type, or the great post punk emo type. I just don't like to see it made synonomous with sh*t like has been mentioned. Simple Plan are just plain sh*thouse. To me that is whinging f**kwit persecuted sh*t pop punk. Linkin Park are refined, microwave meal metal.. it's pure sh*t all the same. I don't dislike bands for being commercial, I dislike them for being useless, and Linkin Park rate a mention here.
As for TLE, Cheney is a great guitarist from a technical, and pop writing point of view in my opinion.
