How does Rabs still have a job?

Stoooooopid old man

Can anyone tell me who sterol is?

Sterlo

My mistake... Not professional enough.
I did see it earlier but obviously over estimated some people on here.
I guess that is why they need a commentator who can pass on the exact precise info.
I'm old school , I watch the footy and can still follow the game even when Rabs gets a players name wrong
or ponders over their place of birth.

No wonder you persist with your strawman argument. You still think it's all about getting players' names wrong. How about you address the real issue? Do you think it is good for the game when the main caller can't differentiate the rules that apply to attacking vs defending players? Thankfully, despite your suggestions otherwise, the referees, as bad as they are, still manage to get these critical calls correct.

The Ch9 commentary team needs an overhaul.
Seriously, how Vautin got away with commentary on there is beyond me.

Also on another note, Andrew Moore and Steve Roach are by far the worst hosts, commentators, unfunniest callers in the game.
How the FK does Blocker Roach get a job. Hes deadset hopeless and his comments are so useless.
Andrew Moore is the biggest fence sitter ever. I simply cant stand either of them.
But yeah oust Rabs too i say and Hadley while where at it :)

Half the bitch fest in here is to do with Rabs getting players names wrong.

Now
As I have said numerous times
I agree he makes errors.. Do you understand this?

But
There is nobody better to do the job.
They are either boring
Biased
have a shit sounding voice
Or just too stupid to do it.

I'd be surprised if Rabs watches games outside of the ones he commentates. He has about as much interest in league at this point as my mum. Sweet FA. He's collecting a pay cheque and nothing more.

How does Ray Hadley still have a job?

How does David Morrow still have a job?

How does Warren Ryan still have a job?

How does Ritchie Benaud still have a job?

How does Bob Fulton still have a job?

I could go on.

Wazza and Bozo are both on AM radio. AM radio listeners think that Ray Hadley is a hero to the masses. The average AM radio listener is probably the same age as the old buggers too. So I guess the audience relates to them. Is the continuous call team still winning the ratings? If so, the proof is in the pudding. Pardon the pun, but last time I listened to it was for 10 minute and they were judging a gramma pie eating contest in Kempsey. Seriously.

Benaud is unique in that every person in the Australia (and probably England) that has ever watched cricket on TV knows him, whether they are 8 or 80. He is more iconic as a caller than any other caller in these parts. When and if he decides to retire for good it will be a very softly stage managed event (ie ratings grab).
He is also part of a different kind of sport - slow and languid. It suits an older (or weaker) caller who can chime in when needed or inspired rather than having to talk non stop for an hour or two and follow fast play. It is why footy puts the ex players with no broadcasting experience on the sideline - a couple of 30 second spurts of mish mash mumbles (I'm looking at Joey and Freddy) doesn't ruin a game, and the producer can write the half time wrap for him. If he misses a beat there is plenty of time to sort it out and catch up. By the time Rabbits finds the right song sheet, a whole set of six has passed. Poor old bugger.

dead set?
Are you really comparing calling a game of rugby league with cricket?

Richie pumps out about 7 words per minute....the pressure must be intense...how does he have a voice left?

FTR
Every single commentator pronounced Pedro's Civoniceva's name wrong his entire career....but hey.

Yep
I agree

Apart from Ben Roberts and Voss ( who is no chance - less than Roberts )

Who is going to do it?

Rabs is going to retire at some point (soon) and they will be forced to find someone. They should be looking right now so they can blood the new person so they aren't thrown in at the deep end. Surely Hadley isn't going to step into the head caller's role.

Doesn't it feel to you that they are blooding Hadley in the very manner you suggest? Like Carch said, be careful what you wish for.

Rabs can't afford to retire.

Which is fantastic for the game if he was league's Richie Benaud, but...

This is the big point. I cant believe the producers of the show let Gould away with this stuff... Particularly on a delayed telecast. Distracting Rabs is a game for Gould.

Sharks fans sooking about Gould is embarrassing as usual.

Half the bitch fest in here is to do with Rabs getting players names wrong.

It's not that he gets them wrong. He simply doesn't know them.

Really ? Rabs gets them wrong or in some cases doesn't know them....really ?

FFS

So turn the f**king sound down ya bunch of f**king soft c**ks.

If you can't handle Rabs god help you when the next bloke takes over.

Oh and Gould????
Sickening

Awful to listen to him again in last night's Origin coverage. I think it was towards the end of the 1st half, after Gould had been talking about NSW getting a sniff of getting back into the game, Rabs said something like "I get the impression, after listening to Phil Gould, that NSW are going to make this close". He is really losing his marbles...
