In the words of Effie, how embaressment was that pre-game stuff from the AFL.

Wasn't it unreal. It's like someone opened a time warp into the 1930's. Those songs are just priceless. 'Good old Collingwood forever' should be stuffed, mounted and sent to a museum as soon as possible, and it should be heard as you enter a room devoted to the 50's with old Holdens, laminex kitchens and women in bee hive hairdos.

It was like that movie 'Pleasentville' where everything was stuck being 'nice' and in black and white.

Queen songs have to be cringing in anyone's language, but really badly done Queen songs must be up there with the all time lowlights.

All the pre-game bulldust from the NRL and AFL is an expensive waste of time. I can't believe TV stations will have that crap on the air in this day and age.

I would laugh about Victorians, but they vote for the people who run this country, so it is all a bit freaky.

Anyhow, I've seen far worse GF entertainment (poor Angry Anderson must have felt as if he had the most microscopic weenie in Australasia in 1991 when the crowd laughed itself sick at him miming 'Bound for Glory' in a big gaudy blue batmobile :lol: ) priceless...

I agree with you though. Yeah, I'm a purist who is a decade or two past his use-by date, but give me the old days of 2 games in the lead-up to the big game with a single rendition of Waltzing Matilda and Advance Aussie Fair before going straight into the big clash.

Ten seriously pissed me off yesterday by poncing on with Moonface Newton, Nerdboy Hudson & Bias Bowls Daicos when they could have been showing the U-18s GF. And while we don't have AFL reserves anymore, I fail to see why they couldn't work it so that the VFL GF could be played as a curtain raiser to the AFL GF.

Jeeezus Keerist... Its not advanced aeronautical engineering fellas... Its still the people's game and the people still (with few exceptions) like to have football on football's biggest day of the year!!!!

I guess the pre-game entertainment has become a part of grand final day in both codes these days.

The only thing I liked in the pre-match entertainment was the parading of retiring and newly inducted hall of fame players but I must say the NRL/ARL/NSWRL have had their fare share bad pre-match entertainment over the years. One has to look as last year's cock-up with Billy Idol as one clear example.

On the club songs, they maybe a bit corny and old but the players and supporters like to sing them after their team has won. I think you'll also find a few Rugby League clubs have some corny and old club songs which are still used.

Only in the privacy of the men's changeroom one would hope.

I did hear a few drunks in a pub doing a really bad old South Sydney one a few years ago, and I have to say it was greeted as a bit of a freak show exhibition.

The NRL have had some shockers - the Billy Idol thing, and who can forget the giant TV's that fell to pieces or whatever they did a few years ago.

I believe, and I sincerely hope it is the case, that the NRL grandfinal will be supported by the final of the Jim Beam Cup (which will be won by the Entrance Tigers whooo hooo) and the final of the Premier League.

If I never see another second of pre game bulldust i'll die a happy man, but the NRL are going to have Meatloaf this year, but the original meatloaf for a few minutes must be better than some nida dropout wannabes murduring Queen songs for what seemed like hours (but was probably only minutes).

I wish both codes would just play football.
