For the record, the Broncos went back to back in 1997-98.

Just in case anyone was wondering. ;-)

They'll only go as far as scheduling allows. They can't keep up with the Saints or Packers offensively. Once they meet either in the playoffs it's over.

I thought the 49ers were slam dunks for the superbowl. One Tree Hill? Charles Bronson? What happened?

Gents, there was a reason many of us were sceptical about their chances. They come up against a geniune contender and could not score an offensive touchdown. Never trust Alex Smith - inconsistant at best.

Oh please, if anything today proved we're better than everyone thought. Besides it's wasn't Alex's fault, the line just couldn't protect him today.

It's never easy going across the country on only a couple of days rest.

i think thats a bit over the top
they came up against a really good team today, two quality defenses went at each other, two quality coaches went at each other. The niners are not 9-2 for no reason, they are 9-2 because they are a very good side, but i think it did show that the niners still have some way to go, and i have said it all year long, alex smith is not the guy to lead them back to the lombardi

Anyone that says Alex Smith is the reason they lost today is a f**king idiot.

Sorry, but its true.

He had absolutely NO TIME to do anything today.

The only time he DID have time, he let go of a bomb to Ginn and he went in for a TD that was then called back!.

9.5 sacks for the day...f**k me...its a wonder he got out alive...that O-Line was pathetic today.

So mick, where was his hot read?
Im not laying at Smith's feet, far from it but this game did highlight his failures as a QB.

He knew the pressure was coming and couldnt get the ball out quick enough, your talking about coming up against sides like Detroit, New Orleans, Cowboys, Giants, Packers and the Bears (falcons who are the other vying for a play off spot, dont bring all that much heat)
those sides bring pressure, be it a front 4 via the bears, giants and detroit, or with pass rush specialists on the outside (Matthews and Ware are arguably the top 2 pure pass rushers, and ive loved what i see from Casillas)

If Alex Smith is to guide this niners teams through the play offs he needs to recognise the blitzes, locate his hot read and deliver it. He didnt do that today and it resulted in no offensive TDs. They will get handled easily by teams in the NFC if they can not handle the pass rush

let alone should they make it to a SB and end up facing someone like the Steelers or Ravens.

Excuses excuses:roll::roll:
Be nice if you actually admitted that the Niners just aren't as good as Balimore and don't have the ability to play like that sort of team.....yet!

f**k we won 8 straight and we're only a good team, not a great team. No reason we still can't make the conference championship game in the pathetic NFC.

Giants, Lions, Eagles, Bucs, Bengals are teams we'd struggle to beat in previous seasons but we've beaten them all and we could have beaten the Cowboys, also who knows what would have happened if Ginns TD wasn't brought back, that wasn't a chop block imo.

Pretty funny to see everyone coming in here bashing the 49ers.

So them losing 16-6 in Baltimore on a short week shows that they can't hang with a legitimate superbowl contender? mmmkay...

The Ginn TD that got called back was a huge bullshit call IMO and completely changed the momentum of the game, if the 49ers grab the lead there it's a different game IMO.

Raider you mention all those teams that bring pressure, while we did beat Detroit and the Giants I agree with you, I think teams from here on out will bring blitzes and forces Alex to beat man coverage and fit the ball in tight windows, I think this could be his downfall.
