How long can these unconvincing wins go on?

Was a scrappy win but I'll take it. I thought the positives were that Lotes and Keith's performances were best of the year thus far.

Lote made some mistakes in defense but looked hungrier and fitter than he has in a while. Both made some strong runs when we needed them most.

I'm growing more and more impressed with Humble, defended in the front line and was good at Hooker. He should be our long term utility.

He should be your long-term five-eight. He`s a specialist five-eight who`s been forced to become a utility player.

We got home because the team followed Sheens' gameplan. With all the injuries and against a grand finalist, it was a very good win.

Lol. Get ya f**ken hand off it you wanker!!
What was the gameplan? For Lawrence to get injured so we could move players to 6 who could actualy use some ball skills.?

Macknob, last time you were on this forum you departed with your arse in a sling.

It's an interesting study in psychology your fixation on Sheens.

I best it must have cut you up to see the Tigers win under Sheens.

For mine Humble was decent but we looked a far better side with Politoni at 9. His service was crisp, fast and efficient, much better than Humble's.

I suppose that is the difference between a fill in hooker and a real one.

I don't see where Humble fits into the club at the moment. He has a lot of ability but there are better players in all the key positions (1,6,7 & 9) where he could slot into.

Politoni is real bloody fast, reminds me of a very young Farah,

He's dead keen to get stuck in defensively, but he's just not dominant enough in tackles, but he does stick to the tackle which is bloody good enough for a young kid.

That will get better with experience though, as it did with Farah.

I'd like to see him starting next week, Moltzen at 7, Benji at 6, Ryan at 1. Pretty speedy spine that.

Humbles line speed all game though set the tone.

I would like Pat to get more minutes but I think Humble at 9 as well. Good in combination

Benji should stay at 7. Moltzen should go to 6.

I'd like Politoni to stay in the team. Even when Farah is back I think Robbie needs a rest during the game.

Good luck hooking Farah to give him a rest - not going to happen. Who's going to break that news to him? He will always play 80min for the Tigers, which I agree with & is a complete waste of a bench spot. Origin on the other hand.....

I actually thought both Humble & Politoni played really well last night. Their quick service helped the forwards get a roll on. Humble particularly, fed Marshall well with passes right out in front of his chest allowing him to hit the line with speed.

In no means a criticism of Farah, but I also thought the team played more direct & worked well with only 1 decision maker (I might get shot for saying that?).

Overall I thought it was a really solid performance & the boys deserve praise! The first half, we were hanging on by the skin of our teeth, but they didn't panic with the ball & they defended their arses off deep in their half for many sets. Patience & a decent kicking game were the biggest improvement for my mind. Best game this year by a long way.

Re-watched the game today, was actually pretty promising. We let in that early try through a poor read, but otherwise defended very well. They got a try off a jump ball, and two lucky ones in the 2nd half.
Attack was pretty woeful in the first half, but that was to be expected given the personnel. With Farah back, Lawrence back to left centre and anyone semi competent (happy to have Humble there keeping it simple) next to Benji in the halves, we'll score plenty of points.
Ryan is having a great year, Lote looked 2010ish on Friday, Ayshford is getting his form back, even Moltzen is making breaks.
We're not far away. If we stick around the bottom of the 8 until the end of origin and get the cattle back on the park, we'll have a great chance at the top 4.
Why it takes us 2+ mths to get our game right every f**king season is beyond me.

Lote did not look anything like 2010.
Ayshford isn't looking anywhere near form.
Moltzen always makes breaks, always has, but I can't abide by any fullback who won't contest high balls and is timid with the ball in hand.

But, yes, things are looking up...more so than four weeks ago anyway.

Lote played real well, without a doubt his best game for a very long time. He has been rightfully bagged all season (myself included) so he needs to be given credit for performing. More of the same and I will have no complaints with him. He looked fast and hungry.

I think he is and once again the problem/issues will come back to Sheens. He appears to want Reddy in the centres and will happily, to me at least, move Lawrence rather than just saying, 'Joel, you miss out this week, you'll have to settle for NSW Cup".

Meaning, 1 Moltzen, 2 Ryan, 3 Ayshford, 4 Reddy, 5 Lote, 6 Lawrence rather than, 1 Moltzen, 2 Ryan, 3 Ayshford, 4 Lawrence, 5 Lote, 6 whoever

The same goes with Utai, he will happily have him in the team and move Ryan to centre and not for example, say to Moltzen, "Tim, we are going in another direction and are going to give Beau a run at fullback, you'll have to settle for NSW Cup"

Meaning, 1 Moltzen, 2 Uati 3 Ryan, 4 Reddy, 5 Lote, 6 Ayshford (from Friday night) rather than, 1 Ryan, 2 Utai, 3 Ayshford, 4 Reddy, 5 Lote, 6 whoever.

Untill the great coach selects a guy at 7 and keeps him there and more importantly, let's Farah play as a 9 only, the backline will keep playing mix and match.

Note, interesting how young Reynolds at Souths was given a go this year, allowed to settle in, even made mistakes but was allowed to grow into a 1st grader. Yet, it can't, doesn't happen at West Tigers. If I was the U20's half or a fringe 1st grader from another club and got a call from the Tigers recruitment staff, I'd just hang up.

I dont know how Sheens has done it but how we've attained an incredible new skill recently.

It's called "making the other team play $hit house".

Well, actually, considering the opposition is playing god awful, while we are looking slow, weak and unconvincing, maybe its more like some form of voodoo hex.

Haven't really read the whole thread but I must've been watching a different game on the hill on Friday night if people are disappointed with the win. Defence was excellent - they scored one try off a really crisp backline move early on and then struggled the rest of the night, scoring 2 tries off kicks (one ours, one theirs) and a fourth try that sometimes just happens in league and probably wouldn't have scored if Fulton knew that Hurrell rarely passes and committed to him instead of the winger (mind you Reddy should've made the tackle regardless). I'll go so far as to say they didn't have a line break after that first try that I can recall - now that's a fantastic effort.

Attack we struggled (a consistent theme all season), but we had no Farah and Sheens' continual insistence on playing players out of position. Positively we made really good metres against a big pack of forwards and if Benji can kick like that every week we'll go a whole lot better.

Four wins in a row is four wins in a row and I'll take them any way they come. Comps aren't won in April or May and once our top 17 is back on the paddock and fully fit, I'm confident that we'll be a threat.

Yeah I don't get Sheens love affair with Reddy.

That in my view has been the sole reason for all the positional changes, because when the whole backline shuffles to accommodate a bench player, reddy is always left alone.

The fact he's had the easiest ride, positionally, out of our three centres this year, he really hasn't shown that he deserves a starting spot. Ayshford is still better than him by a good stretch, and he's not in top form yet.

I'm not really sure how much better Reddy can get, he just doesn't look like he's got anything more to give, potential wise.

Hopefully with one centre out, and a fullback out, Sheens may be forced to put some players in better positions.

I'd like to see this week
1 - Ryan
2 - Utai
3 - Ayshford
4 - Reddy
5 - Tuqiri
6 - Marshall
7 - Moltzen
9 - Farah
14 - Humble

Lets face it, Humble would be a better 7 option than Moltzen, but after his try and line break (forgetting his stupid grubber trying to copy benji which led to a warriors try and his woeful performance under the high ball), he won't be getting dropped.
