Clarke is currently on 75 not out against the 2nd best state in Pura cup. He also has made a huge 100 in his other Pura cup game.

How much longer should Clarke stay in Pura cup? Is the standard of Pura cup dropping off as Katich got 49. But when both go to the International level they fail badly.
So how are we meant to know when Clarke is ready to return to international level?

Do we possibly see how Clarke goes in First Class cricket in England?

he's about 2-3 seasons away i reckon

I don't think he'll be out of the Aussie test side for too long. If he keeps scoring runs, then the selectors have no choice but to pick him again. Don't forget that the selectors see him as the future of the Aussie team. That should never be discounted. All it would take is for Hussey or Hodge to have a few failures in a row and Pup will be back in the side. He's just going through a bit of a form slump. Form is temporary, Class is permanent :D

Hodge will get the SA series to cement himself. Hussey has basically done that already.

yeh, I think Hodge is good enough, but he'll have to be consistent, if Clarkey is gonna keep scoring tons

Clarke would love Haurie bowling. He would be 200 right now :)

See that is the problem with the silly QLD selectors, Haurie would have had a 5-for if he played but they decide to not play him! To be honest I am not happy one bit with the QLD selectors currently. Haurie will bounce back!:D

hard to see Hodge failing too many times. He has a proven record all around the world! He is a superstar. Clarke might be one but he won't be in the test side for a while yet.

Clarkey should never have been dropped, and this century just underlines his class.

Umm...HUSSEY made a ton in the test match and Clarke was in awful form in test matches! He should have been dropped but it is good to see him getting runs becuase he will need to continue to do this in the next 12-24mths to get back into the side!

he nearly got out twice, he reall didn't look comfortable

So what? The main thing is that he is still there in the morning and he did his job well enough! Every batsman has to have luck anyway. The reality is that the Aussies were playing for stumps and Hodge/Hayden did their jobs!

Put Clarke in at 5 or 6 when he comes in, and move Hussey at 4. Hussey proves he can bat no matter where he is in the order, so it doesnt matter where you put him. Clarke is not a number 4 batsman, maybe in ODI's but not at test level.

Watching Hussey bat makes you wonder why they stuck with boring, selfish, hot and cold Damien Martyn for so long!!!

Loved the way Huss handled batting with the tail!!!

yeah - all class

Since his century against NZ in Brisbane, Clarke has had 15 tests, scored 531 runs at an average of 25.28.

A stellar 4 tests against the mighty Black Caps in which he averaged 11.25 with a top score of 22,
5 tests against England with a top of 91 and an average of 37.22 (better than his career average)
an average of 22 against the World XI (1 test), 20.75 against Pakistan (3 tests) and 12 against the Windies (2 tests)..

Recall him quick... I mean, he's played 72 first class matches and has an average of 38.53, how can you afford to omit such class from your test team???

His last 2 fast class games he is averaging 150. His first class form is going to pick up if he stays in Pura cup.

He'll be out for a while yet. He needs to prove he can score runs consistently and at any time, not just when he's looking for selection or on his last chance.
