How Much Damage has Hunt done to this Club

Just listening to Andy Raymond Unfiltered and Mick Cronin actually used Hunt as an example of how some modern day players are on more coin than they should be. Smart man

I am not happy bagging the bloke. I wish I could call him my Captain.
He is a decent fella, and a good football player.

Simply put, I hate watching a bloke playing for us that i know doesn't want to be here.
It just doesn't sit well with me.

Mind you, he's not alone re modern players on big bucks they shouldn't be on.

Hunt is coming to the of his career. Next year will be his last. He made it to SOO coz Munster was not there.
The problem is we have not developed a FG half in the last 15 years and every team that develops one they lock them.
The last two we developed Amone self destructed and Bud just failed.
For us to be a force again we have to develop marquee level halves.

We are so desperate that I have heard we might extend Hunt to 2026.

Good post.

Often overlooked is our nursery of new talent. Halves in particular. I do hope your last sentence is wrong, although I it's more hope than anything.

If I was Ben's manager I would be screwing the Club for every penny. That's called business. I want to see Saints draw a line in the sand and move on. That's called smart business.

Let's be realistic, we won't make top 8 and that will be because of our for and against. We are equal 8 now in points, but we are in 10th position. That is because of -92 for and against. To unseat the Dolphins at 8th position who are at +39, we need to catch up more than 130 points and we have to match their wins.

It's 4 out of 6 games to be sure we make it.. 3 would be luck going our way..

I think we end up atleast 2pts short, but love that we are gonna be in the hunt right into august.. and if we did beat the dogs.. itll be very interesting.

ALERT MEDIA IS FINALLY CATCHING ON

Story By Sterling Taylor

4. Dragons in a Hunt sized hole?

Shane Flanagan went hell for leather to keep halfback Ben Hunt. Unfortunately for him, the No.7 has been well below his form standards in 2024. With the 34-year-old on contract until 2025 and reports of a one-year extension, he is no longer worth the coveted $1million per year.

As a club halfback, Daly Cherry-Evans is a year older and is outputting a quality far above Hunt. A million dollars for a mid 30s playmaker is well and truly overs. But after chasing to retain him, is Flanagan now regretting his actions?

While many clubs may still be interested in the experienced halves services, no one else would pay a million per season to get him. He simply is not worth that kind of money.

It leaves Flanagan with a tough call. He was reportedly closing in on an extension, but based off his age and form, seeking youth for half the price could be a better play.

Hunt will need to lift if the Dragons are any chance at finals. If they do clinch a spot in the eight, he will need to go back to 2016 form for the Red V to make any dent.

The first one is the biggest hurdle. Once it’s out there other journos will follow and eventually the muppets on 360 will be talking about it. Hopefully that puts more pressure on flanno and he goes in a different direction

if you look at other captains like Crichton or DCE if a player makes a mistake they will get around them and support them so they do better next time. Hunt just has that stupid sour look on his face and berates the player. That must do wonders for morale and confidence, especially if you are a young player just coming through. Not the sort of bloke the boys would want to play for.
The thing is, spray a bloke because you lead by example. Hunt sprays when he's one of the worst players. Anyone whos played the sport knows any teammate that's shit but sprays others is usually the most hated bloke to play with

Hunt is by far the worst signing of the panoply of sh*t signings we have made in the post-Bennett era.
Yes, worse even than Packer or Rose or Norman or past-it Benji or the walking crap factory that was Josh Dugan.
He's the worst because he's on marquee money and he's supposed to be the General, the playmaker and he has not the first idea how to do this. Nor does he seem to care much.
You know whether we're going to win or lose by the look on his face.
Not acceptable in Under 15s or Zetland Z-Grade and certainly shouldn't be acceptable at our club.
No wonder no bastard went to his 300th game function. Shows the level or respect he has among the squad.
Punt the (C) Hunt!

I agree with all of this except for your critique of Dugan. Regardless of what people thoughts of his abilities as a fullback, that guy cared and busted his gut every time he took the field. He was a fullback who lacked a passing game but I'm betting most of us would take the Dugan who played for us back then over Sloan without a second thought.
Shed tears in his final game wearing the jersey. Didn't want to leave.
If we had more players with his passion the team might play with a bit more soul.
All the others you nominated were terrible signings but the Duges was ok IMO. Was probably the right time to move him on but I always appreciated his efforts representing the Red V.

Most of all though we do agree on Hunt being the worst signing probably in the JV's history. Has sucked the soul right out of the club and just like they doubled down on every crappy coaching appointment since 2012, the club has doubled down on Hunt and his ability to deliver absolutely nothing in clutch moments, big games or his ability to lead from the front. He's a deadset fraud as a captain and a halfback and as a representative of our famous jersey.

I have said before , when I was playing at the elite level and he was our Captain and wanted out , he would of copped a belting at training and no more captain ........

The last line says it ALL
"Back to 2016 form"
In 2016 he was still with the Broncos.
So the truth is now out that he has done nothing for the Dragons since he joined.
Very accurate article

Hunt's best season at Saints was when Widdop was with him. Since then his mate Corey Norman came on board and both as bad as each other. Then when Norman got booted he went downhill and became a hog. All Saints needed to do was get him a dominant 5/8 to lead the team after Norman left or replace both Norman and Hunt with a young up and comers but Saints hired the worst coach in history in Hook and it all went to $hite with all Qlders taking over.
