How Roosters plan to win the 2012 Grand Final

I thought Anderson was the one who let Soward go. And Finch was gone before Soward.

Anyway who is this JP du Pless person and what's with the hype around him? Sounds like another Sisa Waqa.

South African union young kid person guy.
Hopefully not another Sisa.

Soward was told that he was not up to first grade standard because he was too small and not a good defender, by Ricky Stuart. The same coach put all his eggs in the Brett Finch basket. It was a very bad judgment call by Ricky Stuart that left the young dynamo Soward looking for a new club.

Now Soward is happy at St George, because Super Coach Wayne Bennett, unlike Stuart, had faith in him. Soward has repaid the faith of Bennett by becoming top points scorer in the NRL, helping Saints to the top of the NRL, and being tipped for future Origin honours.

Meanwhile the NRL referees have voted Finch as the biggest sook in the NRL. Thank heavens the Roosters finally got rid of him.

J P Du Plessis is the best young centre talent ever to appear in the South African rugby union academies. The Springbok establishment is furious that the Sydney Roosters have snared their planned future national star. He is likely to become the dynamic thrust of the Sydney Roosters awesome backline attack in 2011-2012, and the potent core of a future South African rugby league national side in the 2013 and 2017 World Cups.

I had forgot to mention perhaps one of the greatest centres who converted from rugby union to rugby league: the immaculate John Brass, the legend of Eastern Suburbs Tricolours in the 1970s.

John Brass was of course a Test Center for Australia in rugby union and rugby league. Brass had a beautiful passing game, which enabled his centre partner Mark Harris to smash through the defences of his opponents, especially the much weaker rivals St George and South Sydney.

There are really no top class centres who converted from rugby union to rugby league, who failed at league. That is why we can be confident that JP du Plesis is headed for great things with the Roosters, and will help them rise to the top of the competition.

You do realise that if Smith is successful the best you can hope for is to be runner up in a grand final.

That is based on past experience.

But of course with Perrett, Pearce, Symonds, Jones, Williamson, and potential Super Star J P Du Plessis on the books, Smith will have more raw attacking talent than he had at his other clubs. He can break his own mould at the talent studded Sydney Roosters.

As I said earlier, if he doesn't reach specifc annual benchmarks of success starting next year, he should be fired, and Mick Potter brought in for the 2012 season.

yep a Folau and Inglis mixed into 1 or something like that. I think a more fitting comparison would have been Matt Peterson and Paul Carige

All these comments about du Plessis in terms of the Sisa Waqa precedent are way out of line.

First, these original massive promotional comparisons of Waqa with Inglis and Folau came from Waqa's coach at Gordon Rugby Union club! That is a far cry from the head of one of the most prestigious rugby union academies in South Africa, saying that he couldn't understand why Du Plessis had left a guaranteed prestige future in South African rugby union for rugby league.

Second Peter Sullivan had only seen Waqa on videos. He has watched Du Plessis in the flesh.

Third, people who are not sure whether du Plessis is going to be that good, say of du Plessis "let's wait and see how he adapts to learning the game." Well how about applying the same standard to Waqa, eh? Waqa himself said when he was signed last December that he needed to adapt to rugby league. So why don't you blokes just give Waqa the time he needs, and the time you say du Plessis needs, before rushing to judgment on him?

Waqa has had more than half a year. Nearly a year. I'm willing to give him another year, but it cannot take this long to adapt. du Plessis is in the same boat.

Currently, Sisa Waqa is not a first grade rugby league player, he could very well one day be.

July 23 2009 is less than eight months since Waqa signed -- not nearly a year.

But I am glad that you will give him another year.

Meanwhile, remember that du Plessis comes with many more credible recommendations than Waqa had.

The main thing we have to watch is the power of the coach.

You all remember that Ricky Stuart let Jamie Soward go to St George, and stuck with the brat Finch. Now look at Soward vs Finch! Which one is making the waves?

We must stick by the rising stars: Pearce, Symonds, Jones, Williamson etc. as well as our established talent like Sam Perrett, and not let Brian Smith, with his arrogant authoritarian style, arbitrarily dump them.
Your knowledge of your own club is pathetic.

Anderson let Soward go in round 12, 2007. Finch joined the eels at the start of 2007 season. Josh Lewis left 3-4 weeks before Soward to the Titans.

As for rugby union converts you've referenced in other posts, Shaun Foley was a winger/fullback you guys had up until recently, where is he now? Is Sisa Waqa a quality convert as well? I don't need to list all the failed attempts, most of them never even get to first grade. Your club alone has had more failures than successes in recent years converting these players. Thats the funny thing about converting players, you never know how they'll perform until you put them on the field. Some take to it like a duck to water and others just never grasp the basics to make it in the top grade. Yet you're already saying he'll be an "amazing center".

It's very simple. Reconstruct the team with a mixture of talented youth and experienced high performing stars. Here is the likely 2011 team that they think will be in the top four by 2011, and winners of the Grand Final in 2012.

In summary, try and buy a comp?

No, we don't plan on paying any of the players at all. Like every other single team, they'll all play for us out of sheer love. :sarcasm:

When will people realise that you can't "buy a comp" here in Australia.
Players play for salaries. We don't offer money to other clubs to take their players from them as they do in football overseas.

The players are free to choose which clubs they play for and the limited number of players available at any one time means you can't "buy" Premierships as clubs can only offer limited salaries due to cap restrictions. Even clubs that have huge Juniors areas have to PAY their players. If they dont pay them they leave, so even if the players come from the same area as the club, they're still "bought" by the club.

Build a f**king bridge mate. Seriously.
