NOTE - Their are plenty of threads out there to bag South's in, this is NOT one of them

Seriously I can't begin to work out this team - missing a quality half pairing is going to hurt but the rest of the team looks so good on paper, a decent coach but one unproven in the NRL. :?

How well do you think the team will do in 2012 ?

6th - 9th imo

I cant work out the comp let alone one team, some good recruiting all round anyone getting five of the final eight is a genius imo.....most clubs seem to have strong claims..will be a cracker of a season

9th at best... our halves are even worse than last year. And we've spent a billion dollars on another overrated back in Matt King.

They will miss Sandow ,even if that young bloke steps up , it will be hard for him to maintain playing at NRL every week.

Also Sutton , he is not a 5/8 , so if they are relying on him to be the dominant half then they are in bigger trouble.

I have them well outside the 8 , 12th.

one of the strongest sides in the comp next year and should be pushing top 4, if not top 2..

they've imported a lot of melbourne storm circa 07-09 (players & coach & support staff) and i expect them to collect the same number of titles.

Is missing a great half back the season killer that it used to be? These days I'm not to sure that it can not be overcome. Like many I do not rate Sutton to be more than an average second rower at best but I think a team, any team for that matter, can operate around an average half's pairing.

I think Souths will have a real strong season in 2012 and my reasons for this are outlined below:
  • Adam Reynolds will take the NRL by storm. He will be on par with Daly Cherry-Evans in terms of ability and controlling the play.
  • John Sutton will finally realise his potential and lead the Rabbitohs around the park. His consistent efforts will lead to a push for SOO selection.
  • Greg Inglis will demonstrate why he's the best centre in the NRL hands down by terrorising opposition lines in attack and defence.
  • Nathan Merritt will be the top tryscorer in 2012 from fullback.
  • Issac Luke will get suspended for a hefty part of the season, but this will lead to the emergence of Nathan Peats who will lock down the hooker position at Souths and will tighten their defensive line.
  • Their forward pack won't suffer the injuries they copped in 2011 and will provide a formidable platform for the halves to weave their magic.
  • The Maguire Factor. Souths will be capable of scoring points while their defensive lapses will become a thing of the past.
My prediction is they will finish sixth.

Problem for Souths is they haven't got someone capable of being a dominant playmaker. I can't think of a team that's done well recently who didn't have a semi decent playmaker. Luke is more a running dummy half than a creative Cam Smith type, Reynolds is unproven and is coming back from a long term injury, Sutton is shit, and Merritt isn't a playmaking type of fullback. Also I think they'll miss Sandow's goalkicking, he was a genuine sharp shooter in 2011.
