You know you're desperate when you're using the Dally M's to defend your players. Guess what? Colin Best won a Dally M positional award a couple of seasons ago and now he's one of the worst backs in the game. Those awards mean jack s**t.

Halatau made upwards of 30-40 tackles a game during his purple patch. His running game is better than Stagg's but hardly 'great'. If so, then Creagh's is amazing bordering on perfection.

Creaghs running game is great, why do you think he made it for NSW & Aus? Hes just a pussy.

You know your desperate when you try and compare somone who has had one good year to someone who has had a fair few.

People tend to forget that the dogs were well inside the top 8 at the half way mark last year. Then Michael Ennis got injured and it all fell away.

Ennis is so important to the dogs, and I think that shows in results. Like Wests tigers, the bulldogs attack is not so much centred around the half back but rather the direction comes from dummy half.

On paper, the dogs pack is about as good as it gets this year. Graham and Tolman are high class quality props with massive work rates. The back row of Pritchard, Eastwood is as damaging as any on their day, although their consistency is seriously in question.

David Stagg, when fit, is the perfect foil for Ennis. Covers the ruck as good as any lock, and allows Ennis to preserve his energy for attacking raids. He's also capable of an offload, and doesn't shirk his work in attack. A world beater he is not, but he is certainly what that team needs.

The question surrounding the dogs, ultimately comes down to their outside backs. Ben Barba is a very very talented fullback who (with the direction of Ennis) should have a decent season in the middle of the park.

Morris is a competent attacking centre and young gun Tim Lafai is equally good with ball in hand....Defensively however, Morris is suspect, and Lafai is very much unknown.

The dogs wingers are not overly tall (particularly Turner) and as such clubs with tall wingers will this year will have a distinct advantage now that Jamal Idris is not there.

The dogs halves are not state of origin quality, but with the help of Ennis, they are more than capable of providing the kicking game and putting their outside men into holes.

Depth is not a concern for the Dogs, with young guns like Tapau and Josh Reynolds around, and some decent fringe first graders like Halatau and Joel Romelo on the books.

There are two questions over the dogs next year.

1) Can Dessie get the best out of Frank Pritchard and Greg Eastwood on a consistent basis. If he can, they're top four bound.

2) Will Dessie be able to implement his style straight away.

I think the dogs are a year away next year. Hasler will have unlimited resources in which to mould his team, but it'll take a bit of time to adjust. Looking at their roster, it's a side that Hasler can mould and work with, unlike when he took over Manly, which took about 3 years.

I think their second half of the top 8.

Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb
No he didn't
Jack Reed wasn't signed from the ESL idiot
Neither was Widdop.
Typical Bulldogs Force fail.

Ummm... did you guys read what I quoted???

The last for regular British internationals signed by NRL clubs have all been value for money. Morley,Ellis,Carney and Sam Burgess.
Where the hell was ESL signings mentioned anywhere? I stated that WIDDOP and REED are BRITISH INTERNATIONALS!!!

I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to compete with Halatau's hole running...how can anybody even comprehend breaking the line ONE time all season. Oh wait, even David Stagg managed that feat.

Moron.

The Bulldog's other major signing is also an interesting on in James Graham obviously there is always a question mark about bringing in players from the Super League.

Right there doofus.

David Stagg to the Bulldogs is what Matt Hilder is to the Knights. A tough, uncompromising, no frills forward that puts in the hard yards, runs up a massive tackle count and helps tighten up the ruck area.

Every team in my opinion needs this type of workhorse. Dallas Johnson for the Cowboys, Corey Parker for the Broncos, Ash Harrison for the Titans, Shaun Fensom for the Raiders, Glenn Stewart for Manly, Simon Mannering for the Warriors. The list goes on.

Many of them are unsung heroes but play a pivotal role in getting their team over the line.

The problem is out of all those players you listed SK he's at the bottom of the list. The only players at his level is Hilder & Luck. But you're right, every club needs one. The problem is the Dogs have two.

When I first read that I thought immediately "Bullshit!"

But a quick check shows they were in the top 8 up, bar one round, until Round 16.

They really fell away fast then.

Good forward pack, shit backs.

They have one weapon, Barba, but asides from that i can't see where their points will come from.

Can see similarities between their side this year and Parra's last year. Probably have the same problems, coming close but losing games by 6 or less. Ennis could pull them up into 7-8 if he has an injury free year. Without him they're 12th.

A pack of 'workers', uncreative 6/7/9, boring backs and a decent attacking fullback

Won't bother the 8

One thing that makes me question their credentials is everyone constantly saying "Hodkinson will improve under hasler". While he may improve, he has a LONG way to go to compete with the top 3 or 4 halfbacks in the comp. He's already played under Hasler and rather than improve, he faded throughout the season. Yes, Manly were hit by injuries late in 2010 but Hodkinson offered nothing in attack. He's a good defender for a 7 but I really don't think he's going to improve immensely.

The dogs have a good forward pack that's probably in the top half of the comp but their backs are about 15th. I can't see them making any kind of challenge for the premiership. 9-12th for me.

They were going well until they had a string of games against the Dragons, Melbourne, Brisbane and Manly and they were found out as pretenders. Dogs' fans will claim it was because Ennis was missing, reality shows that it was because they simply could not compete with genuine contenders.

Every team has injuries.

No doubt ennis was a loss however both romeleo and the other skinny kid went really well at hooker when ennis was out.

Romelo is a grub. Has the smuggest look on his face when he tackles an outside back half the weight of him.
