What a **** of a season this is.

There's having a bad year and then there's this.

The mother of all curses has struck us down and it just keeps poking and pulling our pants down.SO much of it is bad management with a lot of bad luck thrown in. Generally, when it comes to footy, we catastrophize and make out things are really bad when in fact fortunes can turn around quickly in rugby league. These last few seasons there isn't a thing that has gone right, a spark or a hope to hold onto. As a fan, you think "I'll just bide my time doing something else" but the ghoul keeps coming with some nightmarish surprise and before you know it the club's captain is white anting the club from the inside out.

I cannot tell you how much I detest the people at our club from the CEO, to the Head of Football, to the squabbling board to the heartless and talentless players. I have lost all belief and I am just waiting until Hunt is allowed to walk so that I can disassociate myself with the Big Red V.

Done being patient. How can any of us endorse what goes on at the club?

Wow. Clint Newton is a real fumb duck, isn't he?

“He is well within his rights to ask questions about the direction of the club. Clearly there is an issue he wants resolved.

“If he wants out, it can only happen by mutual agreement.”

Club needs to draw a line in the sand...no compensation no release...

If he and his manager don't like it... NSW Cup til the end of the Year.

Unfortunately I think the poking comes after the pants down.

...if this is allowed to go ahead then does it set a precedent that in the future any player or players in the NRL that are still under contract and playing for example in a bottom side (or any side for that matter) can jump ship and go and STRENGTHEN ANOTHER TEAM viying for a premiership ...
Exactly. So not only is this an absolute tragedy for the dragons (largely self inflicted), but the panthers, storm, rabbits and any other team with a chance should be seriously concerned. The NRL needs to look very closely at this.

100% and further after compensation no new club untill at least next year...otherwise the wealthier clubs with salary space will pay compensation but still poach players near season end to strengthen their finals aspirations....just like the Donkeys this year if its allowed to happen

I think you will find that what Suli meant was he did not want to get out of his comfort zone but knew it was a move he had to make. I have heard a rumour that he and Hunt had had a blue in the car park so if that is in anyway true he might be happy to see the arse end of him. Personally I think Hunt the last two years has been a pox on the club.
What happened in the car park can you elaborate? I wish big Moses would clock him

Isn’t he what ! Wake up to yourself Clint baby , you received 1 too many knocks from your time at Newcastle .

Ask the Dragon supporters what we think of our captain who extended his contract only last season knowing full well at the time just what that entailed , namely continuing to be away from his family .

We had our problems then yet that didn’t stop him from drawing his large pay packet , Lordy we even allowed the little whinger to play exclusively at his favourite position , that being half , he would not consider any other position but that .

So stick your opinions where your grey matter should be , as when you speak there is a distinct clanging sound from upstairs . 😉

Never in the hunt: Dragons star wanted out before Flanagan signed

Shane Flanagan backs himself as a figure of influence, but he is wasting his time meeting Ben Hunt this week as the Dragons skipper has made up his mind that he wants to leave the club.
Barring some kind of unexpected intervention from the Dragons, Hunt will reinforce that view at the meeting.

NRL Highlights: Dragons v Warriors - Round 17

St.George Illawarra Dragons take on the New Zealand Warriors in Round 17 of the 2023 NRL Premiership.
The fact Flanagan has not been an attraction for Hunt to stay has been conveniently ignored by those who trumpet his ability to recruit players. Paul Gallen was crucial in bringing players to Cronulla during Flanagan’s time at the club between 2010 and 2018.
Hunt has told his inner circle he has nothing against Flanagan. The pair talked a few weeks ago, after Flanagan had been announced as the new Dragons coach. Flanagan went public to say he and Hunt were on the same page and on good terms. Hunt did not give Flanagan any assurance about his future at the club. Hunt had already told the Dragons he wanted out before Flanagan was appointed.

The club asked him to hold off on making anything official until it announced a new coach. Flanagan should know that within 72 hours of his conversation with Hunt, the Dragons skipper had informal discussions with another coach at a rival team. Money was not discussed, nor terms, as per NRL rules, but Hunt’s ambition and qualities certainly were.

In other words, the signing of Flanagan had no effect on him. Hunt made his mind up to leave the Dragons after his 300th NRL game on May 13. Another flogging, 42-22, was the final straw.
The club had promised to make significant signings to support him. They never came. Instead, he was left to be the face of their on-field and off-field mistakes time and again. He is sick and tired of being that person.
The enormity of what the Dragons are dealing with is not lost on Flanagan, who is set to lessen his media commitments. He may also have to deal with unrest surrounding another star, Zac Lomax.

Hunt did not want to play in Friday’s big loss to the Warriors, and only did so for his teammates. Queensland is his preferred destination and he hopes to work out a deal with a club in his home state. He has no history with new Gold Coast coach Des Hasler, but has been an admirer from afar

I CANT WAIT FOR THIS BLOKE TO BE GONE AND HOPEFULLY ERASED FROM THE HISTORY BOOKS OF THE DRAGONS.

And if this report is true, he can take Lomax with him!!

This provides an opportunity for the Board to show its mettle.
From a team perspective, he needs to be put on gardening leave as at the moment he is a cancer. From a financial perspective, there is little benefit in releasing him from his current contract. Re his contract for 24/25, this where the Board have a huge bargaining chip. If Canterbury can pay a transfer fee of $500k for a bloke that hadn’t played NRL, we should be able to get a minimum of $750k. If any club or Benny don’t like it they can do a SBW and buy out his contract.
Now it’s just a case of seeing what WIN businessman and Dragons chair Lancaster has learnt in the corporate world and whether he can negotiate and execute.

As if there was any doubt, this just guarantees the wooden spoon for 2023. How delightful for it to happen halfway during the season. If Hunt had any real consideration whatsoever for us Dragons fans, he'd stand himself down for the rest of 2023 and sign his "traitor" contract with "I no longer care" in 2024. Also playing 9 for any other club for 6 months only enshrines his legacy as a (compete the sentence). Remember Benny Boy. You're a long time retired and you will be the hottest pub football conversation for many years to come. See everyone has an opinion on this. I mean everyone. You may struggle financially though for 6 months. I mean what was your yearly income at the Dragons? Oh that's right! 🤬🤬🤬

So with all this going what does the CEO actually do ? Can he overule the Board ...... legit question here can someone fill me in ......
Usually the Board would set policy and strategic plans and would delegate to the CEO the authority and responsibility to implement their decisions and instructions.

It is considered very dysfunctional and poor corporate governance for the Board, or the Chairman or any individual directors, to directly engage in operational management.

If the CEO is given an explicit directive by the Board and chooses to defy it, most likely the CEO would promptly lose his job but I would expect that the consequences of the CEO’s defiance would be very, very difficult to challenge for any aggrieved party. However, no doubt, if the board considered the CEO’s decision to be of sufficient consequence, they could simply override it and attempt to reverse or revise it.

I agree with everything you've said....if our mob agree to let him go to the Donkeys then this will be one of the worse decisions ever made by our club and imo the NRL should intervene in this matter in some form especially due to the fact he is under contract.....if this is allowed to go ahead then does it set a precedent that in the future any player or players in the NRL that are still under contract and playing for example in a bottom side (or any side for that matter) can jump ship and go and strengthen another team viying for a premiership ....it's basically unethical and immoral imo
It also makes a mockery of the entire competition. There’s major implications here for the NRL. If it is allowed to happen then obviously clubs will have more reason to fiddle with ‘salaries’ and ‘contracts’ and, very quickly, there will be a handful of stacked sides and a bunch of non-competitive sides. Clubs will basically buy premierships. This is all contrary to the expansion plans of the NRL and the basis of the salary cap system.
This is a BIG scenario. If the NRL and auditors sit on their hands I will be amazed. If they let this go through to the keeper it will be reasonable to say the game has been destroyed; it’s just not rugby league.

Time for the Club to play hard ball .There is little benefit to release Hunt for the remainder of the Season , especially to benefit another Clubs premiership hopes .
I would DROP Him to NSW CUP for the final 9 games and appoint him Captain.
Will be a lesson to all players , contracts are contracts and NO PLAYER is bigger than the Game
