Would any AFL player get offered any sort of contract to play League, even if they were desperate for a run?

I remember an absolute ozzy rules star called Barry Kable (Cable??) had a few second grade games for Perth Reds when they started up. He described as far too tough for him.

Now why would you go ahead and let the truth get in the way of a good story? The way some are carrying on you'd think he'd never picked up a Sherrin before and never mind the fact that AFL scouts had their eye on him before he chose league.

I'm sure if it were the other way around and a fumbleballer defected to our game then the decision would be lauded from most around here and would be seen a a great coup for our game while being a massive kick in the guts to the AFL

errr, no.

If an NRL club spent part of their cap on an AFL player they would be laughed at heartily...

Lets compile a list of players rugby league has lost to other codes over the years.

It's getting big.

For everyone you loose there are 100 hungry kids waiting to take there place.

What dont kill you makes you stronger Rugby league will come out of this year bigger and stronger.

This will backfire on the AFL there arrongance will be there downfall.

Umm no it wouldn't I imagine it would be seen as a very risky and desperate move.

besides i dont think there is a top line AFL player who could make the transition to league and become a first grader.

Maybe someone like Johnathan Brown could get a game in the backrow, but it would still take even an elite athlete such as him, one of the AFL's best, at least two years to learn the very specific skills and structure of League.

Hunt however just needs to improve his kicking because there is very little structure to an AFL game.

Back on Mike Pike again, i think they have him as a ruckman and his main job is to wait for the umpire to bounce the ball, run up to it and tap it before the other guy does. That's not a skill. Same with guys like Brett Kirk. he can't kick for sh*t. He can only run around all day and stop talented players from doing anything by jumping all over them and tackling them to the ground for the entire game. I imagine Alan Tongue could learn that role in 6 weeks.

From Kangaroo tours and 4 straight Origin Series wins to the Southport Sharks AFL side.

Awesome.

I wonder if there are any top line AfL players who fancy a game for Wentworthville?
But they would not make the the wenty side.

Perhaps Group 6, but they would probably be too hard for them too.

There was some former West Coke Eagle who played FG for the Reds, or was in the Reds training squad or something back in the 90s.

Correct me if im wrong (Perth Red) but didnt we do the same thing when the Reds started up? Didnt we poach a player from the West Coast Eagles?

This is hardly unheard of. And certainly not a kick in the guts for the game. So one player moved across, so what? He'll most likely be back after a couple of years.

Really the only thing missing from a top level league player's repetoire that makes a good AFL player is his kicking ability.

Who isn't Hunt being linked up to?
Don't remember the last player to move to AFL let alone be linked to them.
