I can understand from Hunts perspective that he wants to play in genuine national comp

 NSW QLD Melbourne = ~12 million population... off the top of my head

the backwaters that are Adelaide and Perth? 2.5 million.

Hunt signed a 3yr deal which starts in May next year, so he can still do the Japanese rugby thing between the NRL season finishing and then.

Why would you let him risk getting injuried? You would want him to start working out with an AFL club to learn the game and get the required skills immediately. Might even see him play for an AFL club next year if the transition is quick enough, just to get his skills up. You would probably find that the Lions would be more than happy to have a free player for next season.

Have you done catching practice in the rain with it yet? The thing turns into a ball of soap. I still remember playing footy with the old leather balls which at the first hint of rain would be as slippery as an eel and as heavy as a lump of concrete.

Yeah I have. The ball I have appears to be different from a normal AFL ball and has a soft sticky outer casing which makes catching it a piece of cake even when wet.

Apparently not every Sherrin is actually a Sherrin. Which makes perfect sense.

Ahhh yeah, I have the same one. Is it a Kangaroo Brand Sherrin? They are spongey as hell and easy to catch. My boy likes it because it is red. I bought him a mini rugby ball the other day though and have tried to get the dog to maul the AFL one.

I just checked the Sherrin website and a proper game ball is $170! ZOMFGBBQ?

I went to my nephew's Auskick day down in Melbourne a month or so ago and the balls they use there have grip on them not unlike a gilbert or summit or steeden.

No not every sherrin is the game ball the AFl use just like how not every steeden is the NRL ball or every Gilbert is the union ball and how Mikasa balls are the official water polo ball. Makes perfect sense

It was Japanese Onion the whole way. Now all of a sudden it's AFL.

What a merkin.

He better get used to being in this position every day with his new androtop teamates.

that's child abuse.

you are an unfit parent.

Hey, it wasn't my kid. My brother in law asked me to come along to help out and I was interested to see what happens.

Basically its a bunch of kids running around and every now and then they throw a ball in. Then they all fall on it.

The other fathers were amazed I could drop kick (rugby style) a sherrin 50m from a 2 step run up.

Apparently you need to march back 80m, spend 3 minutes pulling up your socks and throwing grass into the air before kicking it.

Just remember K that muffs are forbidden in AFL boggers. Get used to sausage, champ.

Anyone think cutie will pledge his allegiance to the Kiwis this time around and play for the NZ AFL team. He would fit right in with these androtops. And it would be the closest he would get to playing a rep game.

LoL.

Pritchard should have done a better job on him 2006. He has shown to all and sundry his true colours.

I wish him well on his future ignomy.

just goes to prove the hole the afl have dug themselves on the gold coast. if todays announcement was that they were signing the best player in the afl the back page of the courier mail would be about henjak being under pressure to make the semis.

cutie is going to play vfl next year so its going to be hard to keep the hype up about a reserve grader for 12 months. he'll be as big a news story as craig gower playing for italy by the time origin rolls around next year. a few league fans will tune in to his first game if he does actually get on the field to see if he falls on his face, and then... nothing.

Like Steeden-Sherrin is a brand, and different leagues use different brands of ball. The AFL uses Sherrin, as does the VFL, the SANFL uses Faulkner (from memory) and the WAFL uses Burley.
