I don't think so either. He's perfect to come in when the shine's worn off and before reverse swing.
Bancroft for me. Leading run scorer in last summer's SShield, nearly 1000 runs.

he aint even in the squad, Bancroft got the nod but he's not in the XI, Green is in the XI

Is Steve Smith really a Test opener?
The six times Steve Smith has been called upon in the first two overs of an Australian innings

199 v West Indies: Kingston, June 2015
With Dave Warner dismissed for a third ball duck, Smith scored 199 runs and had three strong partnerships in the first innings for a man of the match performance.

6 v England: Nottingham, August 2015
This was Australia's lowest Ashes moment - all out for 60 as Stuart Broad's 8/125 ripped the tourists apart. Smith came in after Chris Rogers departed for a three-ball duck. Smith started strongly, a two and then boundary, before he edged Broad to third slip.

48 not out v South Africa: Hobart, November 2016
With Australia reeling at 2-2 after just 2 overs, Smith was the lone steady hand and only batter to reach double figures as the Aussies crumbled for just 85 runs on day one.

109 v India: Pune, February 2017
With Warner gone for 10 after an eventful first over, Smith's topscore of 109 runs as batsmen around him made starts but couldn't convert proved crucial as Australia won by 333 runs.

111 v India: Dharamsala, March 2017
With Matt Renshaw dismissed in the second over, Smith joined David Warner for a 134-run partnership but with Australia crumbling for just 137 in the second innings it wasn't enough as Australia lost the Test by eight wickets.

58 v Bangladesh: Chattogram, September 2017
Coming in with Australia 1-5 after nine balls, Smith and Warner steadied the innings with a 93-run partnership before Smith was bowled by Taijul Islam. Australia won by 7 wickets.

that says he's going to do a fair job, the only times he failed was when the whole team was bundled out for low scores, which may be an indication of the pitch, rather then his ability

I guess he's good enough to bat anywhere and I can't help but wonder just how much influence he had over this decision, being such a senior player, if he wants to open they would probabaly listen to what he had to say on the matter and if he volunteered himself, it saves Bailey from having to make a decision

Exactly.
T20 is destroying test cricket.
All for all the wrongs reasons.
Money, and trying to attract kids with short attention spans with mobile phones going to games.
It sickens me.
You know what's funny the actual lovers of cricket like me and my mates are more bored with T20 then everything else.

Group chats are all about Australian games or other international cricket around the world.

The BBL barely gets a mention these days we spoke about it on Friday actually at the cricket between the 6 of us who went i reckon most of us hadn't watched more then 3 games of it.

When the ODI world cup was on every night watched like 95% of games.

T20 is actually not pure cricket it's there purely for money, entertainment and to get the casual fan involved but the die-hards get more dissolutioned with it the more it gets shoved down the throat.

I wish I'd said that.
