I Dont' Like Cricket, Oh No, I Love it, Yeah

One day cricket and T20 has changed the mindset of Test players. There is a core group who play all formats for OZ as well as core players in all other cricketing nations. The wickets are also set up to guarantee a victory. I mean, who wants to pay good money to go to the cricket on day 5 and be charged for a day 1 pie.

Do Australia / India / England et al provide payments / subsidies to teams like WI when they come and tour? The big countries need to make it worthwhile ($$) for the smaller nations. The players from these nations need the value equation to stack up vs 20/20 nonsense. And if the big countries want test cricket to continue then it is in their best interests to do so.

Read an article a few years ago, saying we actually lose money in summers when anyone tours here other than India and England. Its why the Indian tour is going to be a 5 test series from now on, like the ashes.

Not sure throwing money to nations to come here to get flogged will achieve anything. They do get some coin from sponsorship/tv revenue. If some players do well here, the exposure they get will be huge (sadly for t20 leagues mostly)

Boards of many nations who have deteriorated have screwed up a lot over time. Bangladesh is one of the worst, the politics the greed. They have never done anything despite test access decades ago. Be better served getting proper administrators in there and creating pathways and structure, But unfortunately these days every nation is going troppo with their own t20 league which is a money cow hence test cricket takes a back seat, other than the big 3

India generate about 85% of cricket revenue globally. England and Australia not so big in that comparison

SCG been doing gold coin donations for day 5 for a while now, proceeds to McGrath Foundation

So how long do you give test cricket? 5-10 years ?

Could have asked the same question 5-10 years ago
They brought in D/N tests cause attendances were struggling (outside the big 3)

It will be around for a while yet, Most nations are competitive at home, and there is a few marquee series that aint going anywhere

No they don't.

India generate the money for TV rights when playing away for host countries because India TV networks pay the Cricket boards for rights.

It's why Australia always want India out here even if it's for meaningless white ball stuff.

Australia has only ever looked after its own backyard and follow the money pit.

But crowds are even worse now (than 5-10 years ago) . And more players than ever are deciding to shun test cricket to focus on dumb T20 leagues. If the fans don’t want to watch, the players increasingly dont want to play, and even countries like Australia lose money most summers, then how is test cricket sustainable ?

from what I've read, and it was a few years back, the Windies make money but pay thier players f**k all, which is why a lot of them, and RSA players who also get paid f**k all, rely on the travelling T20 circus to make a living

Then how does cricket ensure that changes?

I can't see that changing in those countries, then there are the ones like Zimbots and the lower tier teams as well from under developed countries.

ICC cant tell other countries how to run thier teams, so I guess some my drop by the wayside

shame

Yea that’s what I’m expecting to happen. There will be 3 or 4 proper test nations left. Australia, India, England and maybe SA/NZ/Pak. Is that sustainable?

RSA may drop off over time, their players are underpaid but you'd have to add Bangers to the sustainable list

I think it will be sustainabale as long as India play, that is where all the money comes from
