The worry was the gap between bat and pad when he was castled by Bumrah in the second innings.

he was beaten for pace, I watched this on slo mo many times

everything was in place as the ball hit the stumps, his head, hands, feet but not the bat, yet as the ball hit the stumps the bat was in position, he was still getting his bat into position as the ball hit the stumps

I doubt he's ever faced bowling of that quality previously, maybe a bit of credit to Bumrah there, it was a very good ball

It was a very good ball but openers shouldn’t be getting cleaned up through the gate like that. I mean he’s still just 19 but it’s something he can work on.

agree, he never defends with a gap between bat and pad though, his defensive technique is very good

maybe he just needs to play a bit more at this level and he seems to need a bit of work on facing spin as well as the ball he got out on in the first innings was a straight break, he didn't read it at all

I love Constance's confidence, but I think he needs to possibly pull his head in a bit.
He's a bit too mouthy at this stage for my liking.
He just needs to let his batting do the talking, and in that respect, he has some incredible technical flaws that he needs to work on.
On this point i reckon he will pull his head in eventually and i think his ego/mouth will come crashing down at some point in the near future. It won't be smooth sailing.

Australians take tall poppy syndrome very seriously. And a couple of failures they will be ripping into him.

Look he is 19 carrying on like a mug lair which is what everyone did at his age.

He still hasn't physically or mentally matured yet.

Its like throwing in your 15 year old into a club seniors team and the older blokes telling him to go out there and just wind up the opposition by saying the most stupid shit trying to earn there respect.

While the older blokes are giggling and saying to themselves yeah that's my man.

Sorry, but I didn't see any evidence of this, where are you getting this from ? When questioned about Kholi's bump, he just shrugged it off and said it was nothing other than what you expect at test match level

He just looked to me like he was a kid in a candy shop, just enjoying the experience and interacting with the crowd. I doubt he's ever played in front of a crowd like that before.

There was more to it than what you saw.
He handled the bump with Kohli very well.
Playing up to the crowd was just a bit of fun, so that was fine.

But he got very mouthy yesterday when fielding at silly mid on.
I think to do that, you need to earn those stripes.

Don't get me wrong though. I love his confidence. I understand it was just his first test and he'll do much improving in the coming years but he seriously has some batting technique flaws to play the longer form of the game. And that is not just about his 2nd innings dismissal. I feel as though he exposes his off stump too often.
Hopefully this will improve, because he can't bat like every game is a 20/20 in test cricket.
He has lots of potential and I'm sure he'll get there in the end.
A very exciting prospect.

yeah, I was watching but didn't hear what he had to say

what did he say ?

What did he say?
Can't tell you exactly but he didn't shut up the whole time. He was relentless and repetitive.
I just don't think it was smart because that sort of behavior will quickly come back to bite him at some stage.

how not to lose graciously

It was the clearest deflection ever!
Patty knew and went straight for the review within seconds.
What about the other technology with the green line that clearly showed the deflection?
It was out every time in a million years.

I dont know about anyone else but the victory yesterday feels like cricket is alive again and given the country a bit of pep in its step into the new year.

There were a few friends who casually watch cricket but not fully invested like some of us tragics were messaging me today about how great that this test match was.

Let's hope we don't f**k up Sydney now after doing all the hard work in Melbourne.

Why was hotspot not available, Surely that would have shown the contact clearly.

too expensive and it had to be paid for by Fox/Ch 7 and they agreed not to pay for it

The ICC don't recognise it as being official as its deemed to not be 100% accurate

it cost $10K a day to run it

Sydney starts with the selectors, we need a new no 6 IMO and hope that Starc is fully fit because there is daylight between Starc and the next quick

Link?
I hadn't heard that.

its not all in one link, its old news, there have been a few articles on this, in short

The use of Hotspot technology in cricket has decreased in recent years due to a number of reasons, including:
  • Cost: Hotspot is expensive for broadcasters, costing around $10,000 per day.

  • Inaccuracy: Some have opposed the use of Hotspot due to its inaccuracy.

  • Military technology: Hotspot is a military technology that was originally developed for tracking tanks and jet fighters.

  • International Cricket Council (ICC) policy: The ICC has never included Hotspot as an option for Decision Review System (DRS) calls in their tournaments. Instead, individual boards and broadcasters decide whether to use it in bilateral series.
HotSpot was first used in cricket during the 2006-07 Ashes Test match at the Gabba. The technology was adapted for television by BBG Sports, an Australian company.
