Tolman, Manu, Widdop, Bromwich Brothers and Duffie all come to mind straight away.

To say nothing of their future, as if they don't have one is absurd. They've got a number of good prospects coming through and a number of players who are yet to perform at their best in first grade.

Exactly. 90% of 'their' junior talent they have bought. Bromwich brothers were developed in NZ, Widdop UK etc etc. This has been the case fot the Storm ever since they got rid of the Norths arrangement.

Yes but developing players and not having any good prospects coming through are two entirely different things.

Not too sure where you would play smith so I do not see much logic in him being called up, it's not like you would take lockyer or wallace off the field so at this stage i don't think we need him in the team.

Not all of us are saying this mate, only one fan here on the forumm is.

Gets your facts straight before you stick your foot in your mouth like that please

There have been quite a few people calling for Tim Smith's inclusion, but no one suggesting Wallace's sacking.

Every club has good prospects coming through. It is just that Melbourne doesn't have many of their own.

That doesn't really matter. As long as they have the juniors there (and let's be fair, if NYC is anything to go by, some good-great juniors) then they have a long term future.

Is anyone actually sure on Tolman's future? I would love to have him up here at the Broncos.

It's not like Melbourne's current star players are old. So really.. who cares what they have coming through.

That's the attitude the Broncos probably took when Civ/Webby were getting older. Now look what has happened, bunch of forwards who would struggle to crack most Qld Cup sides.

Tim Smith set to save the Sharks?

Source: BigPond Sport

Tim Smith could be the surprise saviour for the Cronulla Sharks, with the former Parramatta halfback in negotiations with the winless NRL club.
Smith has been playing for Brisbane Broncos feeder club Easts Tigers in the Queensland but could return to the NRL soon, with Cronulla in talks with Easts to secure the halfback's services.
Smith took out the NRL's Rookie of the Year award in 2005 but was sacked by Parramatta in 2008 after repeated instances of drunken behaviour.
Parramatta legend Peter Sterling says a more mature Smith could be the solution to the Sharks' point-scoring woes.
"It would be a very interesting one. He obviously showed a lot of ability in his first season for Parramatta," Sterling told BigPond Sport's John Gibbs.
"He went off the rails a little bit unfortunately, headed to England and got his life back in order.
"You can understand with the Cronulla side statistically really struggling in that area going for a player that is an attacking style of player. He's got a wonderful passing game. It might just be the tonic that they're looking for."
The Sharks have suffered defeats against the Melbourne Storm and New Zealand Warriors in the early weeks of the 2010 season, and have continued to struggle to score points after a disappointing 2009.

ummm if you have seen him in the Q Cup you would know why... he is playing quite average.

His kicking game is inconsitent at best and whlie he can still put a player through a gap he is not the former NRL rookie of the year.

The only reason I like Tim Smith being at the Broncos is he gives us an option come State of Origin time, or if Wallace is injured. Last year when Wallace was injured I think we played Tonie Carroll at 5/8 ...?

That is also a reason Henjak should give Ben Hunt a crack off the bench every now and then (particularly if Smith goes to Cronulla), so we have a contingency plan if either Lockyer or Wallace are injured, and some experience to back it up.

Your post is good and I agree with it. But I'd rather have Smith as backup than Hunt. I hope we don't lose him, Smith to Sharks that is.

Based on this article, Broncos have Ok'd the move while Easts are holding him down.

Broncos don't seem keen on buying players (Hannant) OR retaining them (Smith). Wtf is the deal? We all know Lockyer has max 2 seasons remaining and it would be great if there was some competition for his spot (Smith, Hunt, Norman etc).

Smith seems keen to leave, obviously a better chance to play NRL down there. No appreciation to Easts who gave him a way back to Aus to start with and no appreciation to Broncs who have given him every chance of making the top 17. I can understand he wants to play NRL but it would be nice to see some loyalty.

Exactly.

I believe you call this an 'open door policy'. When players want to opt out of their contracts we say, "we don't want a player to stay here who doesn't want to stay" ... then what's the good of contracts?

And it seems we're not interested in players of real ability because we want to 'grow our own'.
