Kudos to Chad for manning up today.
Played tough.

No coincidence a team wins when their 7 competes.
The way hes been playing made winning almost imposssible - so important is the halfbacks game to a team.

Was first class. when the team got to their points, he kicked accuratley & appropriately. He was first to get to the kicks every time , despite being much slow than the likes of Holmes.
he fot repeat sets, he got it away under pressure, & he steered the team to their points wonderfully.

That was not first class kicking, you want to go and watch first Thurston for first class kicking.

Frenzy.

He fluffed a few but was very good overall.

Kicked well into the 10x10 corner zones to hem them in. Got 2 REEpeat sets. Gave Slater the jitters under bombs. Made them all better by chasing them all and not missing the tackles.

He was an easy 9/10 today

Bit picky!
Chad had a top game today -aggressive and sharp in defence, and lack of 'panic' in attack
Yeah he did good, but let’s not get carried away. He is so out of form that when he has an ok game people have him pencilled in for origin.

If you can't be happy at that game from Townsend you're in the "he is terrible" camp that thinks we should get Thurston or Cronk or else our half is never good enough to win a premiership...

Did exactly what we needed. When Moylan and Graham offer a lot in attack, we need Townsend to control the game, just as he did there.

As he was against Melbourne earlier this year, easily the best in the halves on the field, which is something in a game with Munster on the field, who some consider the best up and coming half in the game (I think he is a great runner and will be (one of) the best full back(s) in the game in 5 years...).

I think it says a lot about people's expectations of Chad when they're claiming that was outstanding - for him it might have been, for most half decent 7's that was just a par performance. He played what in my mind was a decent game, still looks like a genius trying to kick the ball. I don't know what it is, he just doesn't look natural and has an 'anywhere will do' style. Even how he drops the ball to his foot is awkward, he doesn't place it, he just holds the ball out in front of him, let's go of it and swings the leg - pot luck what happens next.
Did tackle well, and nice to see him run straight on a couple of occasions, but that should be standard.

6.5 out of 10 for Chad. Kicked pretty well with a few duds. Defended well but missed Stimson cold which Ramien and Holmes covered. Passed early, ran a couple of times. Didn't create anything in attack but solid control.

If a "half decent" half kicked well most games, they would actually be a good half.

People that think good game management is "just his job" but don't think it is good when he does it well must not actually watch many halfbacks (and even fewer 5/8s).

Very few can manage a game very well for most a game, and few get repeat sets and most their kicks right in a game (and a season). His defense as a half is well above most others, but that is gravy on top ("standard" halves defence is pretty poor, actually).

Frawley, Marshall-King, Brooks, Sezer, Croft, Jacks, Nikorima, Hunt, Moses.... all first grade (ish) halves this year not anywhere near as good at kicking or managing a game as Townsend. Would all the Townsend critics seriously trade him for any of those players? Are they not "half decent"? Is the standard for "half decent" halfback that you must be a 300 game veteran with several premierships and an elite player? Because that doesn't seem to be the standard for "half decent" in other positions.

Yes, Pearce, Johnson, Cleary, Taylor are probably similar to Townsend (and better in some areas, though some noticeably worse in others) and Reynolds, Thurston, Cronk and DCE are clearly better, but if Nikorima produced a kicking game like that Broncos fans would be in rapture. And he is "decent" enough to be halfback of a top 8 (currently, just...) side.
