Last time we won the comp our winning run began in round 25, we won all remaining games to win the title.

In 2013 our current winning run began in round 25...

The Knights have played the Roosters in five finals matches and the Knights only win coincided with a premiership...

With the exception of last year, the last five grand finals have involved a team from outside the top four.

I came back to Australia for a holiday in August. The knights haven't lost a game since i've been here. I fly back to thailand the week after the Grand Final.

The last 13 Knights games i've attended have all been victories.

The last three Rooster vs Knights games i attended have all been victories. (yes im going tonight)

From the NRL website- The boys done good.

"Where They Excelled: Newcastle had no trouble making big metres in 2013 – topping the NRL for total metres gained with 31,508 at an average 1,313 per game. However, it was the work ethic of their backline that was most responsible for that stat. Incredibly, their entire three-quarter line as well as fullback Darius Boyd averaged more than 100 metres per game. Boyd averaged 130 metres with Akuila Uate adding 143, James McManus 111, Dane Gagai 129, Joseph Leilua 115 and the departing Kevin Naiqama 132.
Newcastle’s kicking game was also strong with a competition-best 586 metres per game gained via the boot. Mullen kicked the ball 426 times in 2013 – 109 times more than next-best Luke Walsh – for a personal gain of 13,625 metres. He was the only player in the NRL to kick for more than 10,000 metres."

It's official. We are now statistically the worst offensive team in the comp - coming in last place averaging 14.9 points per game.

Nice work Apey, I've just got a few individual things of note:

- Our top tryscorer was Uate with 12, putting him 18th equal in the comp. Leilua was just behind with 11, putting him at 23rd equal.

- Our highest accumulator of try assists were Tyrone Roberts and Joey Leilua with 13, which puts them 15th equal across the whole comp.

- Gagai made the 5th most runs in the comp with 361. You have to go all the way down to 49th to find our next one (Rochow with 262).

- With those runs Gagai made the 12th most metres in the comp with 3057. Our next was Leilua with 2477, putting him in 38th spot.

- Our best line-breaker was Leilua with 12, putting him 27th equal in the comp.

- We had two good offloaders, Cuthbertson with 40 (7th equal in the comp) and Scott with 38 (11th equal in the comp). Also worth noting Leilua was 20th with 29 offloads, he's featuring quite a lot.

- Our best tackle-buster was Gagai with 99, putting him 6th in the comp. Leilua was our next with 85, putting him 10th. Interestingly Boyd was our next with 52, putting him 46th. However his average of 3.47 a game put him right up there with the guys around the 11th-20th bracket.

- Our top tackler was Rochow with 634, putting him 31st in the comp. Gidley was next with 625 in 34th spot.

- Most linebreak assists went to Roberts with 15, putting him 16th equal in the comp. Leilua was right behind with 14, putting him 21st in the comp.

- Mullen had the 4th most kick metres in the comp with 7352, but easily the highest average per game with 408.44.

Pretty sure Mason had the below:

- He made 9.34 sledges per game which had him 1st in the whole comp

- Also, he achieved 2.45 water sprays per game which also put him 1st across the NRL

- Unfortunately he also took an average of 10.3 seconds per game to get back onside after a tackle which placed him in roughly 400th position over all

What about bad stats such as missed tackles and penalties conceded?

BJ and Gagai's attacking stats are quite impressive. I wonder how they rate compared to other centres?

What I admired a lot about gagai is the fact that it appeared though he was making an effort to correct his poor defence. I wonder what his defensive stats were from Round 1 - 16 and then again from round 16-26.

I got thinking today about our recent ladder positions and how we've been pretty consistently mediocre for a while . Well here's the proof, first off ladder positions since 2008:

2008: 9
2009: 7
2010: 11
2011: 8
2012: 12
2013: 7
2014: 12

That obviously gives a highest position of 7th and a lowest of 12th, a range of just 5. Our mean ladder position in this time is 9.4, but more incredible is a standard deviation of just 2.23. Basically that means our ladder position doesn't really change that much from just below the top eight year to year. There are other teams who are similar (I managed to get a lower SD for Manly over the same period, 2.19) but they're consistently at least top eight and mostly top four. We haven't been awesome or terrible since 2007 .

Pretty sad we haven't been higher than 7th since 2006.

That's a decade of mediocrity. Although everyone did say it would happen once Johns' retired.

I can't even imagine when we'll top the table next.

Actually they said we'd have a decade of spoons after Johns retired so our total averageness is probably a step up.
