"I was there" - moments you'll never forget

The premise is simple - similar to a thread I created in another section - what moments in League were you at, and will never forget?

For me it would have to be:

1. Grand Final 2004 - getting down to the barrier, hi-5ing Bwaif and SBW.

2. Grand Final 1999 - riling up Saints fans as Melbourne came flying home to claim victory.

3. R1 2004, watching us thump Parra and seeing SBW play his first scintillating game.

4. Terry Lamb's "last home in Belmore" in 1995, smashing NQ 62-4.

What are yours?

1. 2005 Origin - Kimmorley's cut out ball...that was an amazing game of league. Down 19-0, we came back 20-19...Thurston kicked a FG to lock it up at 20-all. Golden Point and Bowen scores the match winner.

2. 2004 Grand Final - winning the comp...90% of dogs fans in tears after the hell we had been through that year. Hugging complete randoms. The last 20 minutes nearly killed me though

3. 2006 Prelim Final - sitting down before the game...warm night, i was nervous. First half and Brisbane scored first, we came back with 3 tries and led 20-6 half time. I was sitting there thinking deep down that we're in the GF...i was looking forward to the next week. Second Half i honestly never want to re-live again. The beer shower i copped when Broncos hit the lead will stay with me forever. I was shattered walking out of that one.

4. 2006: Bulldogs v Tigers - what an amazing game. Bryce Gibbs getting knocked out, massive scoreline, 4 tries for haz on his way to a 34 point haul, 32,500 crowd...everything happened that night. It was great atmosphere.

5. 2005: Parra v Bulldogs - i was at that game with 20 parra fans...that was one of the worst nights in my life. Unbelievable, never wanna talk about that game again, however it will always be in my head.

6. 2004: Bulldogs v Roosters - Willie Tonga's most amazing game ever...i remember going absolutely mental when we hit 16-0. Everything clicked that night...Justin Hodges even got sent off that night after the ref blew his load after crowd pressure. I never thought he'd be sent for the tackle, it was hilarious.

thats all i can think of from the top of my head...

Cowboys V Broncos - round 1 2005, Justin Hodges first game back in Broncos colours was met with some of the loudest boo's ive heared outside of an Origin match. and 95% of them were broncos fans.

2005 Origin - Bowens intercept. Was sitting in the top tier of Suncorp Stadium with mates, as soon as Matty plucked it out of the sky i (along with 50,000 QLDers) erupted. I dropped my rums all over the guy in the seat in front of me. By the time Bowen got to the tryline and planted it i was already on my mates shoulders screaming like a mad man.

2005 Broncos v Manly- Ending Manly's winning streak.

2006 Storm v Broncos GF- Shane Webcke's last game before his retirement,it was also the first time I ever walked away from a game with more respect for the opposition.

Matt Petersen's try against the Warriors in 2005 - Tim Smith, on the 3rd or 4th tackle and still in our own 20, kicked across the field to his winger. The ball then goes through all 13 pairs of hands, we travel 80 metres and score the try. Greatest team try ever.

Although our try against the Roosters from the kick-off this year was special.

Also, Eric Grothe's 90-metre scorcher against Brisbane in 2004 (I think) - he jumps up to catch a bomb, lands, breaks a tackle, accelerates and runs 90 metres to score.

Eric Grothe's double against Canterbury in 2005.

Fuifui Moimoi's debut against Manly - he single-handedly won us the game.

For me, some of them are:

- Newcastle vs Bulldogs in 2002 (Hazem El Masri's kick from the sideline after fulltime (stood virtually behind him at the fence when he took that kick))
- 2001 GF (Cheered on the Mighty Knights when they produced the against the odds win vs Parra)
- S.O.O 3 2002 (Dane Carlaw's heroic last minute try to cruel the Blues of the series)
- Australia vs NZ Residents in 2000 at Gosford (when we smashed the Kiwis 120-0. Famous for Gorden Tallis scoring a 90m try, whilst 4-5 Kiwis were virtually piggybacking on him)

1993 Brett Kennys last home game

1993 First multi cultural day at Belmore

1995 Terry Lambs last home game. I played in the curtain raiser for Chester Hill against St Johns for a spot in the GF. I scored a great try but not only did the announcer say the wrong number, he miss pronounced my name to the amusement of my mates cheering me on!! damn it!!

2001 Grand Final

2005 Major semi versus the cowboys

just to name a few..

- 2001 Grand Final, watching Newcastle blow Parramatta off the park after Eels fans had been smug all week that they'd win the comp easily.

- 2002, Newcastle vs Bulldogs, watching El Masri kick the goal to win the match on fulltime and wondering what anybody had to do to stop the Bulldogs winning the comp that year. Turns out nobody had to do anything ;)

- 2005, Newcastle vs Parramatta at Parra Stadium. First time I have ever been to a game seriously thinking there was no way Newcastle could win. That they somehow managed to beat the minor premiers at a bogey ground while running last still amazes me to this day.

- 2007, Newcastle vs Brisbane at Suncorp. Wishing that League was a 60-minute game and thinking how unfair it was that this game actually counted as a 1st grade game considering the Knights had a 3rd grade team out there.

2002 Finals Week 1 Broncos vs. Eels - Alfie scores try 100 in his career and plays his last match on home soil.

2003 Round 26 vs. St. George Illawarra Dragons - A game with everything settled by a Mark Riddell goal 40m out. Magical.

2005 Round 5 vs. Eels - 42-0 at Half-time.

2006 - Tri Nations vs. Great Britain at Suncorp. Brent Tate's magical try! Which I missed because I left early!

2007 Round 3 vs. Panthers - The amazing Penrith hit back...deadset had me spitting chips. What an upset!

2007 Round 10 vs. Knights - 71-6 Broncos. Biggest Bronco win ever.

2007 Round 17 vs. Titans - 19-18 Broncos win...good game of footy and the weirdest field goal ever!

1997 Grand Final. I was sitting behind the in-goal where with 6 seconds to go in the match, Darren Albert scored the match-winner. I was off to the side, but the image of this red & blue streak through the maroon & white defensive line will stay with me forever.
Every time I see it on tv since -even to this day 10 years on- I get a chill and all the hairs on my arms stand on end. Incredible.

Round 1 1995: I was at the WACA for the Western Reds first match which they won against St.George. 24,932 people cheering loudly for this RL outpost team was awesome. I was also the 2nd person to start up the "REDS REDS REDS REDS" chant!

99 grand final when Tingha latched onto the chip from (i think) Kimmorley and sprinted through the length of the field. Also the heartache of the final minutes, never witnessed such a silent crowd after a sporting game.

Also the Penrith grand final win over the rorters, that was an awesome night. Something i wont forget is that try saving tackle from Sattler, the atmosphere at the stadium was amazing.
