If our board have watched any of the Tri Nations?

NZ were awful in week 1, they beat PNG accordingly but who can't?

They have been ordinary again tonight......

DA has been rubbished from every angle in relation to "structure" yet I notice the lack of any comments in regards to the Tri Nations and the coaching performance of SK!

I cannot believe the hype around this guy and I really hope he is successful for us but I have seen nothing since he took over NZ for me to get excited about.....

Our board appear to be hanging all their hopes on this guy but I can't help but think they would be a little nervous watching what he has dished up thus far......with a very good team too I might add!

NSW were ordinary the last couple of years as well. Preparing a rep side is different to preparing a NRL side. The difference is time

You have plenty of time at the end of the year for internationals, they have been in camp for a while now, SOO is very different as they leave and come back....

He has had 3 years with them now and they have gone backwards since Bennett left tue assistants gig......

Don't forget some of the side was involved in the finals and you don't always get the side you want.

They asked Warren Ryan this year if he would coach a rep side in NSW, he said no, as it takes a special coach to get a side with limited time to perform. He mentioned he builds a side which he wants which doesn't happen in rep sides.

But yeah time will only tell if Kearney has it in him

Isnt Wayne Bennett an assistant coach for NZ?

Going by your theory that means he is crap too....

NZ also don't have the quality of players Australia does.

Marshall is probably the only player on the field tonight who would make the Aussie side. Maybe Nightingale and Jeremy Smith too.

Stephen Kearney > Townsville Crocodiles

Steven Kearney is greater than the Townsville Crocodiles?

You're a f**king weirdo.

NZ were the better team on paper.
Aussies had 2 utility players on the bench, both players hardly being there for impact. NZ should've absolutely destroyed them in the forward battle.
Aus has always been known for having the huge advantage in the backs, it wasn't really the case here as I thought the backs were fairly even.
NZ has a better hooker in Isaac Luke, who IMO has been the form hooker all season.
There was no reason for NZ to lose to this team, particularly with Carney getting minimal ball, less diverse forward rotation and a fullback who's only assets is ball playing.

Although NZ did really fire up in the 2nd half, their poor 1st half discipline and lack of consistency lost it for them, although to be fair on SK, NZ have always been that way - no 80 minute consistency and poor discipline.

I have my hopes he'll do much better with Parra next year.

Kornstar, your blind as a bat

I thought the Haka had a lot of structure behind it, SK would have put a lot of training sessions into that, looked really well choreographed

Haha, I was wondering if a thread like this would come up.

NZ lose therefore Sk is a bad coach.

It's dosent matter champ. Some people are still happy to follow our club, despite it being driven into the ground by the current administration. Some people here have even claimed sk to be greater than god.

Not sure if the DT/CM reported it incorrectly ( wouldnt be the first time) but here is an article from October 2010:

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/nrl/kangaroos-friendly-fire/story-e6frep5x-1225937865377

For the world cup he was actually part of the coaching staff, this time it looks like he was just a phone call away type thing, not really coaching as such.....

I would say he will be on the phone to him right now trying to figure out a way to beat the Aussies next week as he had absolutely nothing tonight......

I'm not really trying to bag SK, he is a rookie and needs to learn, i just find it odd that the board are pretty much putting their reputations (if they have any) on the line for someone who has not proven himself.......

I support him completely and wish him well, i am more questioning the board and if they would actually be content with their decision at the moment considering his performance as head coach of the Kiwi's.

lol maybe he's using DA's tactic of getting smashed one week and beating them when it matters in the finals ( us against the dragons last year) :sarcasm:

He might be more of a club builder (which is what we need) than a throw-17-blokes-together-and-see-what-happens guy like Paul Vautin in '95.

Anyway, as I said, the Kiwis vs the Aussies is hardly a fair test of any coach's ability.

i'm sorry, but NZ had looked the BEST so far in the Tri Nations......until tonights loss

and took care of PNG alright - much more clinically than Australia did....??

i can't agree with your assessments as 1 loss (against Australia.........) doesn't sound alarm bells to me and i still think the final will be very interesting

I don't think you can blame Stephen Kearney for a problem that has always hamstrung the Kiwis; their effort and consistency has always been questionable, and their attitude in defence can also vary greatly.

New Zealand have been by far the best international team in the tournament so far, and I think this loss won't deter them at all. The Kiwis have been criticised that they only put in for the big games, I believe they will put in a much better 80 minute (or closer to) performance in the final, as they will have something tangible to play for (at least in their minds).

I wouldn't take too much from this at all. The Kiwis are a hard team to coach, and you cannot tell me their 76-12 annihilation of PNG was not partially the result of great coaching (they performed for the majority of the 80 minutes and had well structured and brilliant attacking play, plus - for the most part - a great attitude in defence).
