Hes not flashy in terms of tryscoring so I can see why you havent noticed much from him.

When you watch him play every week you see what a quality centre he is.

Im definitely going to watch him closely this year and try and see what all the fuss is about

The under-rated aspect of this Idris deal is what is does for the panthers long term... Idris is here now, Whare is apparently a star in the making, you've got Mansaur, Moylan and Roberts. As well as K.Naiqama and Simmons who is probably done now, they've got strong back rowers and a really good hooker... where does leave guys like Mosley (Raiders, please the raiders!!), Cartright Moss, Jennings and DWZ etc fit in all of this?

That 20's team was stacked, more so even than the initial raiders team which produced something like 10 FGers...

Out of the up & comers you have mentioned DWZ & Cartwright are must keeps IMO. I would like to see Mosley partnering Segeyaro when Kingston is pensioned off. I have no idea how Moss, Roberts & Jennings will be retained long term. All 3 have bright futures ahead of them & I would love for Gus to work out where to fit them all.

Add to that the other Jennings, Waqa Blake, Campbell-Gillard & potentially a few other of the 20's & it is quite a log jam. Logan Geyer & Brad Izzards young bloke will be coming through soon as well.

:lol::lol: people not rating Whare.

4th on LB assists for last season.

Skills are there and at 23 has time to become a consistent centre

Good solid hits. The pass? meh. A lucky flick inside IMO. Good effort from the bloke (RTS?) inside to crash through a couple players to find the line.

I like Whare though. Does everything at a slightly average level. Don't think he'll ever be considered an Elite centre, but I'd be more than happy to take him at the Eels (pending price tag).

I follow the team.

I won't support the club

That still makes you a supporter imo
You may have withdrawn financial support - but you still cheer the side on

What would it take to re-engage you with the club?
A new manager? A new owner? Better membership packages?

See this is the menality i dont get
Im happy to say he's an above average all round solid centre, who does every part of the job better than average... but elite?

Elite?

No, i just dont see that at all.

He is behind Lyon, Matai, Hodges, Jennings and probably Josh Morris. Then there are others like Will Chambers and Dane Gagai who are at least on par in fact I'd favour Chambers still slightly. To say elite is a bit over the top.

His already an elite centre.

The guy is a freak, you merkins obviously dont watch Penrith games.

Centres better than Whare (IMO):

Jennings
Hodges
Lyon
Hopoate
Tate
Idris

And that's excluding the likes of Hayne and GI who play full back.

The term elite must cover an awful large number of people if Whare is considered part of the Elite club

I would give Whare a few more years before I labeled him as "Elite" in saying that Given his age there isn't another center running around that I would want to trade him with.

Tate and Idris, no. Hoppa..maybe. The other three definately better, though Hodges not for much longer, to old and injured.

Pretty much this.

I wouldnt swap him for Lyon, Matai or Hodges due to age. I'd swap him for Jennings if I was confident we would get and keep Roosters Jennings, not the Jennings we had and punted. Maybe would take Hoppa for him if he plays centre.

Sorry I just don't buy the whole sick mother crap these days.
Particularly since so many QLD players need to "go home" to Brisbane............................................ despite neither born nor raised anywhere near there.

I doubt he is getting more money at Penrith...what else is there?

Whare is a gun, anyone that says otherwise didn't watch him last in the NRL or the RLWC.
Is he Elite?? Not yet, but he's heading in the right direction.

Whare an Idris make a pretty handy centre pairing! Arguably the best in the league.

There certainly needs to be some research into NRL players family ongoing sickness.

A disproportionate amount of their family members seem to be grievously ill.

Id almost go so far as to say that a Royal Commission may be warranted.

I'd rate him well and truly ahead of Brent Tate and Justin Hodges as being more valuable to a team then them. Back in their peak, they certainly are ahead of where he is now. Especially Justin Hodges who is on another planet entirely.

But if you look at 2013 form... the only centres you could put ahead of him for sure are Michael Jennings and Jamie Lyon. Both in far stronger teams with decent halves. Dean Whare was well and truly better for the Panthers in 2013 then Michael Jennings was in the 5 years he played first grade for us prior to that.

ALso not sure how Will Hopoate gets rated so highly. He hasn't played a game in 2 years and back then was about as experienced as Dean Whare is now anyway. Had he stayed with the game he would probably be the best centre by a considerable amount by now. But his football career has been set back by more then 2 years in sitting out IMO. He will take a couple of months to get back to where he was, and then a couple more to build on it. I think come the end of the season, he could definitely be among the top 3 centres. Hopefully even by Origin. But even for the most talented players, it takes a while for them to get back into the swing of things. Jamie Lyon was pure dog shit when he came back from England for the first year or so... and he was still playing the game at the time. So i'd give Will Hopoate a full season to get on track, and hope that it happens sooner.
