If all is equal for 8th placed teams at the end of the season for and against is a totally flawed as a way to determine who makes it. With some teams only play souths, knights, panthers etc once it is pretty unfair that other teams who play them twice and that is what could determine where they are placed. While you can't do much about it at the beginning of the season and creating pools is the best way to do it. At the end of the season there needs to be a play off if teams are equal for last spot or it really makes a mockary of the pools system. This is really something that needs to be sorted out in 2007 when the Gold Coast come in.

Totally agree I think it should be two complete rounds but than again there will be complains that the season is too long.So it is a catch 22 and the only way to avoid your scenario is to be consistant and win enough games to avoid that situation.

West Tigers play Souths, Newcastle and Penrith (the bottom 3) only once each this season. This is a big disadvantage and pretty unlucky it must be said.

They seed teams into pools based on last year's end of season table. There is no way to predict how a team will perform the following year so its the best option there is.

You wouldn't know whether there would be need for a playoff or not until the last week of the season, and you cannot just push back the actual finals a week back to decide 8th spot. What happens if you have 3 teams competing for the one spot?

Hopefully the Warriors can sneak into 8th because our F/A is looking pretty good for a lower placed side right now, it's the one good thing about having lost a lot of close matches.

The Broncos are the other team in our pool.

They will have to play every other team in the eight twice, where every other tem in the 8 will only play half the others once.

1.Easts..Melb...NQld....Parra..Manly
2.Dogs..Saints..Canb...Cron...NZ
3.Brisb. Penrith.Wests..Newc..Souths

Pool 0ne looks to be the choicest so far.

Interestingly, the Bulldogs will probably be unaffected by for and against this year, due to their draw with Souths last weekend. They'll probably be the only team on odd points, and will therefore either be in the top eight on competition points alone, or out of it on competition points alone. They just have to conentrate on winning, and not worry about by how much.

It's a lottery, who here honestly thought the Dogs, Roosters, Knights and Panthers would be going so poorly?

Teams that play the Knights or Panthers twice are lucky, but I bet they weren't thinking that when the draw was released.

It is unfair that we only get to play Knights, Tigers and Souths once

I thought our season was over but I know it is :x

Manly and Parra have both been spanked by Souths, so it doesn't always work out the way you expect.

if teams finish equal it's your own (club's) fault. they should have won more games & not put themselves in that position in the first place. harsh but true.

as jack gibson said after his team dominated their oponent but lost on the siren
"we had 80 minutes to win that game - that's long enough to win anything"
same thing applies here - keep your destiny in your own hands by winning & staying in front on competition points & you needn't worry about for & against.

As previously stated, you cannot predict how a team will finish before the season begins. They are doing a good job of it now, the only other fair way of setting out the draw would be to play each team twice and that idea will go down like a lead balloon with the players.

Do you seriously think they will be in the running for 8th position
The original quote said "only team on odd number of points", not "only team with a snowballs chance in hell of making the eight on odd number of points". And I wouldn't be so cocky about it, the odd points will be more likely to leave the dogs stranded alone on 9th at this rate.

Gotta agree with you there, not really an easy game in that pool, whereas I wouldn't mind a second crack at most of pool 3, and half of pool 2.
