Again Eric let in two. Who coaches the wingers in defence?
How hard is it to mark up man on man.
Eric YOUR man is the winger. That's all you have to worry about. Leave the others to the cover defence..just make sure you moving in or up doesn't create the overlap....

We have issues on both flanks...only a terrible pass from Gidley stopped them scoring on the pther side in the second half, they had two on none. Grothe is a poor defender, and so is Reddy, so I'm stunned they were on the same side. The first Knights try we had both Reddy and Grothe pretty much shoulder to shoulder with Finch....and Reddy was in a similar position for the Vuna try, leaving Grothe to make a decision which is always a problem. Tautai and Hayne are better but we still seem to want to rush in on that side as well. It's an issue we need to correct, and fast

To be fair to Grothe, on those tries down his wing, he actually had TWO men outside him, which tells me there was a big problem with the structure in general on those two plays, and I thought that young half back they have threw a great pass to beat our defense.

My confidence in Grothe's sh*tness actually won me money today. I took:

Selection: : GROTHE JNR, Eric (Eels) | 110 Metres or Under @ 2.40

and of course, the son of a bitch only made 67m, which gave me a sizable return on my investment!!!!!

But, being the clubman which I am, I would rather Grothe be dropped for the good of the team, even if it means I will be unable to profit off Grothe's inability in the future.

The Eels No 7 can only get better after his effort tonight...
The NYC No 7 Daniel Mortimer is continuing to look a future star on the horizon..If you are good enough you are old enough..

Tim looked like he needed the run, thats for sure. Saw him sucking in some big ones out wide in defence a few times

I thought Tim played quite well for his first game back....he took a back seat to Mateo and Finch and eased himself into it, pretty much set up Reddy's try and had some good kicks. He'll be better for the run

Eric doesn't need to be dropped, he just needs a good kick up the arse.

I hope this is not timmy bashing pete... you know i don't allow it :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

To be honest i though he was quiet, but probably instructed to ease his way back into grade. You can defiantly tell he was struggling a little, but he never gave up and his solitary kick was the best from close range of all the kicks tonight.
I thought he marched the team around well, added a bit more structure in attack and allowed Mateo to play alot more freely and relay float as he wished.

But Keating, Finch and Mateo all played well and i think we can carry a Tim Smith lacking match fitness and confidence and see how it goes. If he pulled off the same performance 5 or 6 weeks from now i think there would be cause for concern, but first week with no real footy and a little unfit i must add I think we can overlook that for the moment.

I cant understand why you would come in when there's 2 on 2. Fair enough if you're defending 2 players on the wing, and you need to try and take the 1st man, but Reddy had the centre covered.

Why oh, Why oh, Why oh, Why. :x

Our defence on both sides has been ordinary, we really need to fix that up or some of the better sides will rip us to shreads.

To be fair to tim it was his first game back, a few of the drop balls were pretty ordinary passes. He will be good next week. Get the rust out this week, hey we won with him lol

also i think finch did more of the half back role tonight anyway

Eric needs to wake up to himself ASAP. His defense this year has been disgraceful at times.

At full strength this should be our backlne..

1. Burt
2. Tautai
3. B Smith
4. Hayne
5. Inu

the focus on our right side defence is for grothe AND reddy.

they have only played together for a couple of games, and unfortunately, it will take a few games for them to develop a good defensive combination
