I'll be astounded if team 18 is PNG... I just can't see it working

Whether or not PNG gets a license doesn't change the reality that it'd be a mistake to give them one.

Brisbane 2 was 30 years overdue and an absolute no-brainer. Especially one that had serious private financial backing, and an existing access to the QRL and their high level pathways.

There just isn't one comparison between it and putting a team in Port Moresby. It's probably the most diametrically opposed bids you could ever get.

By the way up until a month or so @Get Rid of The Donkeys was wholly against it and was advancing some crazy eugenics theory that PNG locals aren't big enough, and don't have enough "nutrition" to make it as NRL players.

Whether or not PNG gets a license doesn't change the reality that it'd be a mistake to give them one.

I'd argue it would be a mistake to give Perth a licence when there's better bids from Brisbane, Central Coast and Wellington.

Which is why the WA and SA Gov will need to put their hand in their pocket to get an NRL licence. There's loonies on here saying we should put teams in Adelaide and Perth, fund them for decades, then hope the Gov steps in to turn their poor stadia into something decent and assume people will eventually come around to watching the game.

I very much doubt it makes any difference what so ever. Brisbane3 wont happen because Brisbane1 &2 wont allow it and the NRl is seemingly looking for new markets. 5000 extra seats and some new dunnys at Suncorp wont change that.

He keeps talking up PNG, Perth and more recently South island. I think barring something unusual happening they are looking the 3 most likely, if Vlandys is to be trusted.
Christchurch is still in its infnacy though and unless either of them can come up with a better funding model it may leave the door ajar for Firehawks or go anywhere Bears to sneak in.

ofcourse there’s no guarantees and no one is more cynical of Vlandys and the nrl than me, especially when it comes to expansion. But it’d be pretty dull on here if we all just shrugged our shoulders and posted ‘who knows’.
