Phillips, give youself half a dozen.

Smithy said last year that if he can see that he is not doing the job, they wont have to sack him, he will leave.

His coaching life is on the line, and he is the one who put it there.

And I would hazard a guess nobody is more aware of that than Smith himself.

Yes, no doubt, but will he fall on his sword as Twizzboy has suggested?

Hard for some to believe but yes I think he will if things don't get better. It won't be mid-season though...... ;-)

Look after 8 seasons, we are playing some our worst football ever with Smith at the helm.

If there is no dramatic improvement, I think he will be left with no choice.
I think we will have reached the point where he cannot offer the club any more.

Don't disagree with you at all however what construes dramatic improvment? Finishing seventh in the top eight and winning a game in the finals? From where we are now that would be a dramatic improvement in my book but not in others......... its not exactly a cut and dry result.

I agree, but I think most of us can tell when there is potential showing in our game.
At the moment, unfortunately, we are a complete rabble.

2000 springs to mind.
A lot of new blokes....Cayless, Hindmarsh's, etc....... and we could see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Sadly, at the moment, I can't, while ever Brian continues his stubborness.

If, under your scenario Sanders, we made the eight and won 1 game with the outfit we have now, I would be extremely pessimistic.

If, however, we acheived the same results with 4 or 5 of our current Premier League side, and Thorman for instance, I could see that we may be potential challengers in the next few years. That would give me hope.

Yes, there has been huge personel turnover during the last few seasons, but to me, it doesn't seem any better than when we had Drew, Marsh, Ian Hindmarsh, etc......
In fact, we HAVE gone backwards.

AND THAT IS A MAJOR CONCERN.

If Smith cut his losses now, and started to plan for the futre big time, I would back him big time.
Somehow, I just do not see that happening.

I think many of us are pacifists, and will continue to hang onto one last season of hope for Smithy.
As I have said many times on the Eels board, he is a hero of mine, and has been for many years now.
I say this because I listened to his words of deep thought on the ABC footy call for years with Peter Wilkins and the Wok.
It was just such fascinating radio.
There is no doubt Smithy is a deep thinker.
Whether he actually has the ability to put it into fruition is my only doubt.
And, until such time as he proves otherwise, I will continue to have doubt.

Come on Brian. You have the squad, the support team and the management team to acheive this. You also have the best fans in the League.
One more year. That will be 8. After that, I do not think you will be entitled to another.

Chris Anderson did alright with the Kangaroo, Storm etc. I'd reckon he'd be a better bet than the current bloke. At least the team would be fired up. Plus, his players love him. To see people like Webcke and Lockeyer go into bat for him is a big stamp of approval.

One thiing that worries me re JT is that he in't a 'winner' - by that I mean he never got the rep gigs or GF experience that I reckon a coach needs. (see Stuart, Gould, Hagan, Anderson etc)

Ian Millward perhaps? He's earned his stripes in the ESL. I reckon he'd love a gig back home.

Either way it should be someone who has the ability to attract good players. Anderson is probably the pea in that regard.
