If not Smith, then who ?

I'd love to see JT take over the coaching. I mean he's a player that was never the big, fast or strong, but made a fine career for himself based on what went on between his ears. I reackon he'd be a great coach.

I can't remember where I read it, but someone once commented that "naturals" like Brett Kenny don't make good coaches. The reason is what they did came so naturally to them they've never really understood why they did certain things and therefore have difficultly passing it on to someone else.

On the other hand, thinkers like JT or Sterlo tend to make the best coaches (eg. Nathan Brown and Ricky Stuart). I can't see Parra being able to pay Sterlo enough to get him away from Channel 9, so JT would be the more likely candidate.

Well, that my 2 cents worth anyway.

As I've stated, we have more chance in Hollywood Jesus fighting for the taliban than Fitzy paying the remainder of Smiths contract.

However!! if this happens. I'll give you three names

Laurie Daley
Kevin Walters
Dean Pay

I'd like to Gus Gould have a go at Parra, he is a good motivator.
Hell even give Chris Anderson a go.
Someone, anyone, just not the bloke who is doing it now.

yes...i have been thinking this for a while. Been there...done that...would have respect of the players ( not that i know if BS does or doesn't)....doesn't have the baggage of previous years....SOO's....tests...GF's.

....but I don't think you'll drag him away from the microphone.

I'd to love to see Loz at Parra.

Let the Avenger put things into perspective::

Eelavation in regards to contracts. Smith only fullfilled his contract once and that was the one he had before he signed this one. We can negotiate a release for him. he was not paid out in full for contracts he had with Bradford and St. George.

I however like your selection of Daley and Dean Pay. This is why. You see next year Cayless, Hindmarsh, Vaealiki come off contract. They will want to know he is going to be the coach post-Smith. The sure bet would be Dean Pay. He was their leader when they started, so him being their coach would not be going into the unknown. If anything it would assure that we keep them. I also like a player who played with us for only 4 years yet became a literal Eels legend when he was selected in our all time Legends team. That is saying something.

If Pay is not the coach I would go for Daley as he has a brilliant football mind. Cartwright too would be good.

I would never let Chris Anderson coach our team. He is too arrogant and creates a click wherever he goes. We do not need another coach with his favourite bumboys being selected every week.

JT I feel is the biggest risk. I would have Kenny before him, because he is a real EEL not a manufactured one year wonder like JT. I remember we offerred JT a contract when he was in his prime and he scoffed at us and went to Norths. I do not forget things like that.

Cronin and Hilditch were real Eels as well and they will stand by their record.

Sorry Avenger, have to disagree. You need more than an Eel heart to become a successful coach here.

Dean Pay or John Cartwright or even........Phil Gould!

Phil Gould is not allowed near Parramatta stadium, Ron.

Twizboy,

Strangely enough, Phil Gould has a weird admiration for the Eels, judging by his comments before, during and after our Brisbane win. (Maybe he just hates Queenslanders) Sorry Belly!! ;-)

In my opinion, we couldn't do any worse than Gould, as he doesn't really like Brian Smith, and for instance, if he came here, he would do EVERYTHING in his power to succeed, just to prove that Smith is hopeless.
Even with the same players.

Speaking of HJ, where has he been all weekend???

I am a big Gus Gould fan, but I cant see him leaving the Roosters.

John Cartwright or Dean Pay for mine. I think Dean Pay would be good.

Sterlo will never coach while Fitzy is around.....same with Kenny.

Fine with me.

I think we should say bye to BS and Fitzy.

Love to see Stirlo coach the Eels.

At least with Stirlo and Kenny, we would probably have a conventional half and 5/8 combination.

Hmmm, If Parramatta did part company with Smith, I would be more inclined to go for a coach with first grade experience, rather that throwing someone in at the deep end. For that reason, despite the cr@p he can come up with in the media, I would like to see Phil Gould at Parramatta

You won’t lose Smithy until You Lose Fitzy
You won’t lose Fitzy until you lose the current board.
The Current Board needs to have 3 members from the League Club Board.
The Current Board is elected till December 2004,
The Leagues Club board is elected to April 2005.

If you wanted the coach out you would have needed to have started to do it last month.

So I don't think you are going to get what you want. But in saying that I have seen Phil Gould around the place on a number of occasions as a guest of the Stadium Trust

Don't you bet we won't lose Smithy.

Another season of performances like Saturday night and Smithy will have to fall on his sword.
He has staked his life on this season with the "Big Ugly Forward" tactic.
This is the way the game is being played and we fell behind because we didn't keep up with the rule changes blah blah blah.

His coaching life is on the line, and he is the one who put it there.

Stand by it............or walk.
